Never found the mangy dogs good looking mostly because they aren't very nice. I've been stalked by them while hunting and have witnessed them stalk a full grown cow and groups of 10+ deer. A buddy that hunts pigs with dogs has an occasional bay dog that will chase a yote and when it catches up sometimes the bay dog doesn't win the fight and he's got to staple em' up or they have to buy a new dog. Mind you these pig dogs are not fido and can hold their own with 150# pigs. Be very careful with any smaller domestic dogs as the yotes will come from very long distance if they can see the dog. We hunt them with our side kick Jerry a Jack Russel/ Rat Terrier mix and they have come in from a 1000 yds if they can see the dog running around. There have also been a handful of attacks on people though it's not often by a single animal so make sure if you are watching them there aren't others around watching you. Other than that yeah they're o.k. and I actually do enjoy the howling at times.

If you want to thank a Vet, be a person worth fighting for.

Not so much from that picture :smt003  but she is definitely pretty. I grew up on a farm bordering BLM property ... literally the last house on a long, single lane dirt road. OK, next to last  :smt002. Coyotes always played with our dogs regardless of breed. Or maybe they were teasing them? I never could figure it out.

Ben

Yotes will get a domestic dog to play with them while a few of his friends are waiting by to strike; yes this happens!

Coyote's are pussy's you might have 10 attacks in the US per year as compared to millions of attacks by dogs if you are going to be afraid at least get real.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

I agree with seeing the beauty in any creature. But if a Coyote even looked twice at my dog, I'd choke him to death with my bare hands. Real talk. Hopefully I'd have my GoPro on if that ever went down. Beast mode.

Here on the American River in Sacramento there are two spots I see them frequently. If anyone is local check out Harrington in the morning, there is one that roams the Gristmill Bank (opposite of Harrington).. Have seen him or her between 6 and 8 am.
Also there is one that lives right by Howe boat ramp along the parkway..

Hunters, sorry this is a no hunting zone.... :smt001

During a solo late night striper hunt in the Glen Cove area, I was pushed off a beach by a group of 'em. I've never had a problem with coyotes. This little group stalked me, crying into the darkness, seemingly calling at me. I could hear their footsteps on the sand behind me. Everytime I stopped walking, they stopped walking. They stayed just outside my flashlight. I threw rocks at them and walked at them. They'd back off, but they wouldn't leave. I couldn't believe that I lost and left.

I've walked right up on them in the darkness and they've always walked away. Enough time out alone late at night, a person is going to have a lot of encounters with them. The encounters are cool. Enough time out alone late at night, and "that" encounter slightly changed how I feel about being out alone late at night. I still do it, but when I'm out near that Indian burial ground, I still get the creeps.

I've chased possums and racoons out of my chicken coop at 2 am more times than I care to count. The racoons always leave peacefully even when it's a mom with her kids.

The possums on the other hand will go into straight berserker mode and move astonishingly quickly toward you with their mouth open trying to bite you. And when you shove them back with a rake they attack that as well.
