I am going to look at a used 2007 Hobie Outback this afternoon. I'm not sure if it's a angler version or not. Supposed to be in good condition with plug-in wheels/paddle. I'm 6'5" w/36" inseam so there's the real issue, will I fit?
He's asking $1200. Adventure Sports is selling new OB's for $1650 plus tax.
Any thoughts?

Let's go fishin', and don't look back, cuz you'll never see a hearse with a kayak rack!

Have you demo'd any Hobies? You should demo demo demo kayaks. A good deal can sour quickly (not that you wouldn't be able to sell the Outback quickly) if the kayak is not for you. The other question is will you be doing any paddling? If you like or need to paddle (surf launches and landings especially) you may want to look at the Revolution which paddles easier and in my opinion is much easier in the surf. Have fun with whatever you come up with.

The hobies I demo'd were older models - don't know if they enlarged the footwell since - but at 6'3" and the longest setting I was knocking against the end and I had to shorten the length of my foot pumps which decreases the effectiveness of the drive

I can't comment on how it's going to fit you, but that's quite expensive for an 07.  The click-n-go drives were introduced in 09 and are simple/fast to remove in case you get hung up on something.  That plus the drive updates are worth the extra costs or waiting a little longer for a newer used one to come along.

I might be selling my Revo within the year and the asking price wouldn't be much more than that.

Yeah Jim, that's not a great deal unless it includes extra goodies. Hell...I bet Al will sell ya a newer Outback for that price! Heard he's got 2 now....but an Outback m/b too short for you anyways.

Thanks for the info and help guys. It was in great shape, came with 2 paddles, and other extras, but I checked the serial number and it's a 2006. Because of all the info and help at NCKA, I was at least somewhat informed about the problems with 2006 and earlier models.
Thought I might be able to pick up a deal, he would have taken a lot less.
Now I need to test ride. I hope the Revo has a lttle more legroom, it was pretty cramped sitting in the OB. First thing I noticed, NO Rodpod!

Jim, if you're thinking about buying a new or used Hobie, I will highly recommend to get with Chucke. He is the Hobie Rep and he's a Nor Cal Kayak member.  Very nice guy
