hello,
my  1st post,
Great site with very helpful people. I'm looking to fish the bay eventually for halibut etc. Where do you guys put your caught fish? Over the side on a stringer type or in the bow storage area. I have a OK prowler
Thanks,
Tony

Welcome aboard Tony. I normally game clip my fish and have it in the water right next to my right side. When I see a sea lion and what not, I keep the fish
in the tankwell and splash water on it everynow and then to keep moist. See you
on the water soon.

WTTM! Your timing is good with halibut season just getting going. I either do like what jedmo says or a wet burlap sack in the rear well keeps them wet and cool. I also take them out of the water whenever I need to cover much distance since the fish creates a fair amount of drag. Watch the hookups and go see what others are doing first hand.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

Welcome aboard Tony.  I do the same as Jed and Gabe.

By the way. I use a game clip like the one in this link. http://kayakfishinggear.com/18stringergameclip.aspx

A caribiner on the other end makes it really easy to clip to the boat too.

in the bay i just use a nylon coated steel dog leash- they're like 6 bucks at petco. and halibut are just like little doggies when n the leash.
Procedure goes like this:
1) bonk hallie once- stun not kill
2) thread through gills
3) secure leash
4) dump hallie overboard

They'll just happily swim along next to you all day- even when three are on the line

In the sharky-a@@ ocean around here, they go inside the boat, same procedure.

Thank guy's, some good stuff.
Playing keep away from the furbags could be interesting. Hopefully I can wet a line soon.

i'd buy a single game clip for the bay, but in case you venture into the ocean rockfish fishing, having a second clip is a lifesaver sometimes.

...dicks!

Gaff, clip, bonk. And hopefully repeat. Throw it in the tankwell w/a wet towel or burlap sack on top. Frequently splash water on the towel/burlap to keep it cool.

Always, always carry 2 game clips. One for the fish you just caught and one for you go to when you get that second big halibut. I never carry just one. I like a big net for halibut. It hasnt failed me yet. Have your clip open and at the ready for when the fish comes to the surface whether net or gaff like Art said clip that sucka first.
