Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I'd love to try this, but both of those weekends will not work. Have fun, be safe.

So, unless anyone has a better idea, I'm gonna shoot for the weekend of January 29th.  As Jonez told me in a PM, where the fish are in the river is variable and depends on flow - so who knows if we'll get skunked or not.  Also, the flow can't be too high (for safety) or too low (unless you like dragging boats).  So, if the flow isn't right, we'll have to pick another weekend.

Our fish trapping around here shows that late January is a good time for steelhead.  BTW:  Although I catch a few steelies in traps, I am not an experienced steelie fisherman.  It would be great if someone that knows what they're doing would go.

How small is the creek Dave?  I'm guessing from the sounds of it that there would be relatively little fishing from the kayaks and that they'd just be used for transport.  I'd send people down in pairs and space the timing out a bit so they're not running up on each other.  Hopscotch your way through the creek.

Noyo is a big, small coastal creek.  They way I fished Big River before, which is real similar, was to sometimes tie off to overhanging branches and fish the riffles or pool tail outs below.  As you said, the other thing we did was to just stop at nice looking gravel bars and fish it for a while.  That's the way I caught my only hook and line steelhead.  I figure we'll just jump in a spread out as we go.  I'll mark the take out for the cabin and the final take take out with lots of forestry tape.  It may not even be an issue if only a few guys are interested.

Do you think I should I post this again and get a list going?

Dave

This is in my backyard, and I have never had good access to the Noyo. Work, funds, and time aside, I'd like to try and go. The float would be my goal, fishing and hooking a fish would be a bonus.
So much depends on the weather, and consequently the flows.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Sounds like a fantastic trip, if it all works out I'll be looking forward to a great pictorial report.

Wow, what an awesome sounding weekend trip. Don't know if I could make the time yet or if there is space but I wouldn't mind swinging some leeches on the spey rod up there. As mentioned already, hooking a fish would be a bonus.

The cabin I think is about 750 - 1000 square feet.  The thing is it hasn't been used in a year, so there's a funk factor.  I'm going up there this weekend to check it out.

The bottom line is that the cabin will be a dry place with a wood stove and a fire pit outside, but we should bring sleeping pads and bags as if we were camping.  Folks can also just pitch tents in the yard if they want.

Also, there's one whitewater section that is probably about a 2+.  It's short and easy, but you could dump there.
