I made it out at 2 until 3:30. The swell is moderate, little wind, rain, sun. Pulled 8 keepers split between the rings and pots. Good luck sunday, hope it clears up like the weather service says it will.

Jason, did you find dungies or red? I was down by hilfiker and I could see the surf in the bar. I guess it looked alot worse than it was cause the head was managable!

Sorry should have been more specific. I was fishing. Only had about an hour that i could sneak off, not enough time for the whole yak thing. I went out there a few times last season an dropped rings, there are dungies there. I'm not sure I would have wanted to go out there yesterday though, there was some good waves rolling thru there.

Wow, what a beautiful day in Trinidad! Almost felt warm compared to the weather the day before here in Redding. Just rolled back in. My 17 year old boy(solo) and my 12 year old boy (tandem with me) went out about 8:30 this morning for some crabbing. Saw a few other nice yakers...some crabbing and some just paddling out for a long journey. We had a blast! Caught some nice ones. Boiled them down by the beach and headed home. The Somoa Cookhouse was the ticket on Saturday night! Thank you everyone for the intel! That was our first salt water experience in CA and only been in the bays in OR so this was a first for hopefully many to come! Cheers!  :smt006David

plans changed for Sunday and wanted to get out, but didn't know who was going out, didn't check NCKA posts - then again didn't go to Trinidad either.  Darn!  Would have loved to join. Glad you guys got out there.

We also took some colorful photographs of those thousands of crab rings stacked up around the harbor. When does the commerical guys go out? When they do go out, do they drop those traps close to where we were crabbing? Just wondering if it will be worth trying to arrange another trip to the coast. Gee, think I have the fever... :smt004

There is talk of holding off by the commercial crabbers until the 12th. You may get another trip. They drop pots wherever they can find the crab, just like a big vacuum cleaner. I guess somebody has to bring the crab to the masses that are not able to trap their own.

Check the local newspaper to see if they decided to hold off.
