I have been debating on getting a new kayak, and the ocean kayak trident series has really got my attention.  I currently have a tarpon 120 and won't be giving that up by any means.  However, I plan on doing some coastal trips with some friends down in so-cal and will need to do some surf launches.  The rod pod on the trident looks awesome, especially the 2011.  And from what the guys at adventure sports tell me both the 13 & 15 handle the surf really well.  I don't know how much I will be using it so I am dragging my feet a little, but I have seen some really good prices lately and  my trigger finger is getting itchy.   They have a package deal for $899 and said that since I was a NCKA member I would get an additional $50 off.  Any suggestions or info that can help me pull the trigger on this deal?

Test drive one first.  And if you like it, take care of the itchy finger by pulling the trigger.  Worst case scenario if you don't use it as much as planned, spread the love by passing the kayak on to a fellow NCKA brother or sister.  :smt008   You may infect another person with the madness.

Adventure Sports is usually willing to weal and deal so I'd ask for 10% instead of the $50.  It equates to an extra $40 saved.

good boat. got the T13. Even with the hobie I'm still keeping it. I agree they surf pretty well...Way better than the hobie IMHO. As Dilbeck mentioned. You'd be able to sell it in a heartbeat if you find its just taking up space.

the 15 is a bit more narrow, a bit more heavy, but a better paddle.  It also has more capacity.  I recommend a rudder for either.  I suck at surf launches but the rod pod makes me confident the only thing that gets wet is me, and the only thing lost is pride.

I'm leaning towards the 13.  I do want to try and keep the weight down if possible, my.   T- 120 seems to paddle fine so I know the extra length from the 13 will make paddling long hauls much nicer.  The 15 would be great to have, but I think the 13 will be the best fit.

Not sure if I'm going to be much help here because I'm very new to this, but I love my Trident.  I haven't had it in the surf yet, but I've used it in the rivers and lakes around here regularly and I couldn't be happier.  I was a bit concerned about storage and transport so I opted for the 11, but in hindsight really wish I had gotten the 13.  I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading to the 13 soon.  Also, since I noticed your from Sac, we're trying to get a group together next week for a little meet and greet - you may be able to get some feedback there if you're interested the link is here:

Thats an old post for Sportsmans Warehouse but keep your eye on Cabelas online but you have to be patient, I picked my 2011 Trident angler up with no tax...free shipping.. $20 off..... to my door for $670. Just an FYI.

Got the T13 on its second year and still love as much as the day I got it, works great to dive from too. I'm 6-2, 218 and im am always comfortable with plenty of leg room.

I love mine too. Being able to get everything below deck really gives you some peace of mind suring those slightly sketchy surf landings. And you'll make friends as non-trident owners ask if you have some extra room for their rods!

A month ago I bought a brand new 2010 OK Trident Angler 13 (non blemished)at Aquan Sports in San Carlos for $750.  They give 10% off accessories to NCKA members. I also own a Hobie Revo and agree with EWB that the Trident can handle rough weather better.  Photo below was taken on my T13 maiden voyage at Pigeon Pt.

having paddled both a 15 and a  13, i would urge you to go for the 15. it paddles alot nicer.

Put it this way, i was considering getting a t 13 as a second kayak for friends to use when they visit, and after paddling one, i am scratching that idea as it was noticably slower.

The 15 windcocks like crazy unless you get the rudder(extra crap in the way) Almost as much storage. I dont climb to the front to retreive stuff. 13 is lighter but not by much. I have the 15 and I am getting a 13 to compliment it.
