Tote,

I, too, think this is a good topic. I appreciate all the input and tips. Thanks  :smt001

I would like to add that I've read a couple of Kayak news stories that have ended up in fatality and/or a close call.  Beside some bad decision making these guides that were in charge of other people's lives didn't have VHS radios, which is very strange. A lot of us kayakers that are not guides have these radios. Like Blueyak mentioned your kayak could blow away out of reach before your head even clears water and even if you did nothing but look for storms while you where out on the open sea, it's possible you could see a storm coming and not out-paddle it. Personally I wouldn't be very far out at all without a radio and  you would think it would be mandatory for a licensed guide to have one.

As far as clothing is concerned, prepair for the worst and hope for the best. :smt002
