But if he were to target these "legal" species, he'd have a better chance from his kayak.

He was using a kayak to drop the bait in the deeper water beyond casting range.

All I was pointing out was that it was a helluva set up. I did not imply he was targeting GWS, wasn't saying it was against the law to fish with a big rod, if that was the case, I'd be in prison!
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Not against the the law, but bad karma IMO. Sharks keep things like the humoldt and giant squid under control. There is significant post release mortality especially when using J hooks also. Just saying...

This might keep the crowds down at trestles. Lots of kayak anglers use the Oceanside marina just south of there to launch out of and fish the artifical reefs. Cool story

Yup, and that's the exact same method I'd use if I were to target GWS.

I don't think I'd be paddling out if I thought there were GWS out there.   :smt002

I grew up in SOCAL and surfed trestles  every summer. :smt012

Nice catch! Especially in the surf! ...if there was any legal issue with this catch, it'd be with the way it was handled once it was determined to be a gws. I remember a few yrs ago, a guy was prosecuted for catching a BSB from a pier then landing it on the beach...then dragging it ashore for pics & video.

He really didn't have the shark on beach very long compared to those guys who tag them. I don't think he tried to remove hook another good thing. It will fall out with in a week or so. The way it swam off IMO it will be fine. We need all of those we can get out there. Too many furbags here.

Ahhh c'mon.  They're babies remember?  Besides it's those crazy makos you gotta worry about.  The depiction of the mako shark in that cinematic masterpiece: Finding Nemo is very accurate.  Those fish are whack!

If he had caught a mako, thresher, blue, or any other type of shark his gear would also be appropriate and his stated target the same.  What's the beef?  Not like everyone knows exactly what kind of shark it is before landing.
I say no foul.
Less Mental than before, Still savage AF tho <3
