I think it would be cool if installed inside the kayak hull  :smt003

That's what I was thinking since most yaks seem semi-translucent.  Make you a lot more visible on the water at night

you don't need a led strip light to light up the inside, just toss a torch (flashlight in honor of our brit friends) in there and it will light it up.  i did it with my old yellow T13 just for fun and it works great.  I think it will work best on OK boats since their kayaks seem to have the right color/translucency to do it.

as for outside, i think red would be best since it doesn't affect your night vision as much.

Where on ebay did you get those lights?

Hopefully those white/blue LEDs don't attract skeeters like the normal white LEDs do (on my headlamp).

From what I understand mosquitos are not attracted to LED lights.

I was in my local wally-mart a few days ago looking at automotive fuses, and noticed they had LED "Accent" strips. Didn't pay too much attention to them, other than noticing them, as I don't have my kayak with me, and I simply wasn't looking for them at the time.
What I did notice is they looked as if they would be pretty bright.  I'll have to check them out more closely now.

I don't like to use any light if possible at night. Like to maintain my night vision. I'd stick to a head lamp with a red light option, and if I really need to see I can kick on the whitelight so a bit during a knot tie or tangle. A couple of those on the nose wouldn't be bad for navigation lights tho. I have a small battery powered led mini lantern for my rear light that I stick inside a pvc pipe to elevate it on the rear. Stick it in one of the rod holder tubes.

Those are pretty slick jeff...my only advice would be marine grade wiring, soldered connections and adhesive lined shrink tubing.  Doing things twice sucks.

Those do look cool...I'd think that they'd be best used in transit for higher visibility (or flicked on during fishing if some yahoo in a PB heads your way).  Otherwise the night vision comments warrant concern.  Who was the ebay seller?  I might try these myself.  :smt004

edit: Doh...Amazon. Should read more closely...

Harbor Freight has a version of LED strip lights as well $7. ( can't recall the colors though)

Google search yields a lot of options.  This place has a lot to choose from (including more colors): http://www.oznium.com/

Interesting, I've seen baitfish swarm to lights at night, especially at a pier.
Isn't there a bobber that lites up for night fishing?
We used to have lanterns close to the water when we fished the levees as kids.

You might have a fish attractor on your hands! :smt002

Picked up a single LED strip from Harbor Freight a few days back, it's about 9" long maybe 15-20 LED's on it and the colors at the HF are red and blue.  I got a red one and it's prety bright on a 9V battery!  Not sure at the moment where I'll install it on my OB, (As I've never been out at night on it yet)

Well my next kayak I am planning on using a Scotty flushmount and a piece of pvc that I can run the strips vertically on the pvc, and have an easy disconnect for the wiring. I want to mount one on each side behind me. This will also help me with idiot boaters at night.
