Today's article in sfgate renewed my interest in camping at AI.  http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2010/06/24/angel-island-camping-062410.DTL

So I searched and found Duane's report from '06.  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,4667.0.html

Can you just drop in?  I.e., what if you just happen to show up with a tent and campstove and sleep over night b/c, say, you got too tired and didn't feel safe to paddle back across without an overnight rest?

I really want to try kayak camping AI.  Holler if you are also interested.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

There is a kayaks only campsite near pt stuart. It accommodates thirty. I've shown up several times unannounced and camped there. The site usually has someone there but is way huge enough to find some privacy. Kick down some baksheesh to the reservee and you're good to go. Mid-summer is near impossible to reserve last minute space. The last boat off the island is 4:00pm so most rangers vamoose.Paddle around till dusk and commando camp wherever :smt003

Y'all see Zinful's report?  That's what I'm talking about.  I'm going to confer w/ Dad in law.  He's a sailor dude.  If we can coordinate a yak trip with one of his sailing trips (or Zinful's trips?) he can mothership our camping gear and chow, so we don't have to specially re-rig our boats.  I'm OK leaving the big boats out of the equation also and just going with the plastic flotilla.  I don't need anything I can't bring in my adventure and a tow-behind OK Caper.

So let's tentatively shoot for Friday 9.10 through 9.12, or Friday 9.17 through 9.19.  Since we'll essentially be squatting/ commando camping at AI, I'm thinking we set this up for around or after Labor Day weekend.  Every weekend for me is booked until then anyway, lotsa events this summer.  And I know many of you are also booked up pretty solid with trips, work and such.  I'm really looking forward to this, as I've wanted to camp at AI ever since I moved up here from LA over a decade ago.

Should I start a food thread now?  GB2, we need you to come out and grill up some mandogs lol.

I vote this.

Sept is wide open on my calendar.
