So, as you may have guess, no Halibut for the A-Hulls this day.  :smt009 But was a fun day none the less!  :smt003

Got to the water last (as usual, hard to beat the locals!) and launched around 8 heading straight for NewBrighton to start making bait.  Checked in with the crew, tons of guys on the water!  Cross the kelp beds and start jigging up sardines pretty easily, balls and balls of them around, occasionally surfacing trying to escape the stripers.

While trying to put some bait in the tube, come across a ton of these perch!  There was a ball of them on the north corner of NB in about 15fow.  Could have nailed them all day long it seemed, every drop 2-3 of them on the sabiki!  But wanted to stick with the bait of choice and start fishing so finished filling the tube and started drifting some bait.

Finally caught up with Porky and Stoggie, and fished around the 15-20fow since so many guys were in the surf and not catching anything.  BigJim and his family stopped by and gave each of us a nice brew (Thanks!) which I promptly spilled between my legs (DOH! BeerNuts!  :smt005) but got a few sips down and continued fishing around the beach for not even a nibble, or even scratched bait.  :smt012

Soon enough everyone seemed to give up on the beach and head out to deeper water.  We decided with the wind kicking up to head over to the kelp and try for some rockies.  Had one, poooosssibly hali?, gentle bite when reeling in, but not sure since it didn't look mauled but was scratched gently on both sides.  Stayed there for a while jigging my crippled herring and drifting the now dead bait around.

Potholed some more of the kelp around 10-12FOW and ended up getting one take down, a Brown RF.  For the last 4 times I have been to Cap, i've caught ONE BROWN RF! Released...for BigJim to grab later  :smt044  Also noticed a bunch of small fish swimming around the kelp, but couldn't get a better pic to figure out what they were.  I'm just going to pretend they are baby WSB   :smt003

Stoggie headed in, and I stuck it out a bit longer and heard aka-kimo hail on the raido that he just caught a HUGE halibut, right about where everyone was fishing earlier!  Congrads man, your nailed a beauty!!!  :smt007

Sara hailed me on the raido, she was chilling at the beach,  to say Andy was on his way to chill at Seacliff SB with his family.  I give it up, even though I felt like I could stay there forever, such a nice day!  Start paddling in as the wind started kicking up and returned to the launch around 2PM.

Packed up the gear and headed over to chill with Andy.  Haven't been out to see the cement ship in a looooong time.  He was there fishing with his family off the pier and we chatted it up for a bit before calling it a day.  While we were there this guy caught a 34" striper!  Have a crappy pic on my phone, but I'll just say it was a beauty!  Always nice to see the "Team", even if some of them have given up on yakfishing  :smt044

Nice try Al. Too bad on the lack of show of Mr. Hali. You'll get one of those barn door soon enough bro.

He was too busy catching bullheads on the Seacliff pier.  :smt044
