But we only get 30-60lbers up here, no little socal seabass. Disappointing, I know.  :smt005

?????...50+ lb. WSB have been the norm this season out of La Jolla.  A few 60 lbers. as well.  A nice 53 lb. halibut (weight not verified on a certified scale) was also recently caught.  For overall yak fishing, my vote is SoCal.  For just about everything else....NorCal.

Elawpeterson, great flattie and congrats on the move back north from 'the dark side'.  Were you active on the BWE board?  I'm planning my escape next year and I need to get some NorCal fishing time in before the move happens.

Deep dvr-it was a tough move but my vote for fishing is still that dark side...when I get off work ill upload a yt pic we scored in la jolla about a month ago...that will definately get your blood pumping to move down south. Check back at like 8 tonite. You might just pack up and move early b4 the yt bite dies down!

I still live in Carlsbad.   :smt003  I'll be making the move north sometime next year.  YT fishing was pretty epic in late May until this red tide rolled in last week.  I'm heading out Sunday to see if that tomato soup has cleared up.

Just jokin around here. I think it's great that they are born & reared in Socal, then migrate up here w/the squid once they get big and strong. Lucky for us, they appear to be lingering in the Bay instead of moving back south. It's like seabass is the new salmon!
elaw, thanks for the info--sounds like green sardine or dorado Fish Trap. Not sure what color that's called in Hammers.

I had to defend the fishing down here.  I'm definitely stoked about the fishing up there.  Although it can be a slow way to fish, sight fishing in the kelp and watching them swallow your bait is unreal.  My 55 lber. last month came within 3 feet of my yak after he ate my mac.  I could have gaffed him right then....but that probably wouldn't have worked out too well for me.

Its all good man...cali fishing is cali fishing...best in the states!  Heres that homeguard yt pic from mid may off la jolla/mission beach.  Caught right on the edge of the kelp bed between the two.  Weighed in at 40 after being bled on the boat.  This was NOT caught on a yak but pretty epic nontheless.  I love fishing from my yak but my old mans got a 31' Grady white so whenever i get back home the yak stays in sanjo!
