It's a rare occasion when I get an invite for a ride on a PB. And this was a great weekend to do so. We launched at Oyster Point on Saturday around 10 am and checked out some spots that had produced in the past. Within an hour, Randy hooked up first, approx 7 pounds. Interestingly, all bites on Saturday were very soft, with no hard takedowns and no clickers going off even with very light drag settings. There was a lot of bait showing, wherever we went.

The wind was not a problem although it was weird that it would blow in one spot but not so when moving farther out. Joey (Grammar Police) nailed the next fish, approx 9 pounds. Again, the rod tip dipped, stayed down, but no line stripping out.

The last fish of the day was caught (by me) at the midpoint of a big hole near the rockwall. This one weighed approx 10 pounds. Randy had to be home by 5 pm; so we called it a day shortly after boating the last fish.

We decided to try again today, to see if the morning bite would be better. We tried the big hole near the rockwall again, to no avail. We only saw one kayaker on the water, possibly Jim (Saltydog). We were monitoring Ch 69 on Saturday but don't believe we were today.

Unfortunately, Randy caught the only one near Candlestick Park, shortly after noon, approx 11 pounds. Had to apply a wood shampoo several times as this one bled all over the boat but refused to give in for several minutes which it eventually did after flopping around for a while in the fish tank. Today, the only decent bait schools marked seemed to be near the holes, not spread all around, like on Saturday.

Hopefully, this weather will hold on for Yakhopper's ARW event next Sunday.

Congrats on your first halibut of the year Howard! I don't think it was me that you saw today. I've got a sand-dune colored Hobie and was fishing with Craig on his yellow T-15. Never saw a blue yak out there today. It's a mystery?

We monitored Ch 69 for a while, as well as other channels. On 69, the only thing we heard was someone who sounded like he was requesting assistance at the rockwall. At one point, we were trolling about 200 yards off the rockwall.

Thanks for reporting Howard. Glad you enjoyed the PB ride for once. It does help being on a rather large vessel with some serious stability. You finally got a glimpse of how I really target the fish with some precision and watch the multiple instruments to better our chances. Next time we'll go out the gate to our secret monster flatty spot and I'll show you the kick ass 3D contour screen to see how the bottom really is laid out.

Them halibuts we good eats!
