Had the day off so rolled down to the pier nice and early. Talked with the guys at the baitshop and confirmed that no salmon had been reported within my paddling range.  :smt010

Decided to try and drift for halibut instead.

Launched in the rain and into lumpy seas.  Paddled out and around almost to the yellow buoy and began my drift back, bouncing a hoochied whole squid on a halibut rig.

Swell was rolling through pretty good and got some good views of surfers catching some sweet waves over at Pleasure Point. Rain had stopped and it had cleared up, but there were still some storms around making me a little nervous...

Drifted for a few hours and then decided to head in just in case the swell/conditions got any worse...

It was actually relatively calm back at the beach, but still mistimed the waves and took a dip on the landing!!   :smt011  :smt044

No biggie, cuz I had stashed my stuff pretty good, and the cold water actually felt nice after the long paddle!!  :smt003

Anyway, still had a good time being out OTW and not being at work!!

Here are a few fishless pics!!  :smt002

Sincerely,

Jim

So, why didn't you gather some kelp for a salad at least?   :smt044  J/K Jim, but nice pics and thanks for the report!  :smt003

Sorry for the skunk but glad that you can get OTW.  Thanks for the report and pictures Jim.

Good stuff Jim. It's pounding on this side of the bay right now.

I love that first swell picture.  I think I would've gotten seasick.

Ahhhh just shrug this off as a Team SharkBait training camp session on how not to land at GS4.  :smt044.

Nice try on the Hali Jim and thanks for the pics.
I wouldn't go so far as to call a lingcod filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a lingcod's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Yeah, it was definitely a pathetic display of kayak landing technique!!!

But, no harm no foul, and I will do my very best to do Team SharkBait proud when landing at GS4...and If I don't, well hopefully I will have stored my rod inside your yak!!!
