Puts my electrical-tape handle to shame!  Nice work.

Thanks guys!  Ravensblack, it took about 4-5 hrs while watching movies at night.  Just something to keep my hands busy.  I am going to try and make Albion, but may be transfering to a different job in my dept.  I am trying to work it out.

The tar recipe works and smells great.  I love the smell of tar.  It takes a LONG time to dry though.  I usually let it sit for several weeks to set up and dry.  My more modern rope work on my fish knockers and gaffs, I use sparvarnish.  The tar gives a softer finish though, so is easier on the hands for awls and knives.

Very nice that will last forever :smt007

My Dad was a SF Sea Scout in the late 30s early 40's he used to make all kinds of stuff. He gave me this book he got in the sea scouts maybe I'll give it a try.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

That looks like a good book!  I may have to try and find a copy.  I really like The Marlin Spike Sailor, The Arts of the Sailor (companion to the marlin spike), and Ashleys Book of Knots.  Definately give it a try, it is a great rainy day project.  I don't use my hands much at work, so it is my outlet to come home and make things.  It lets me tap my creative side.

The coachwhipping in the bottom picture looks really nice when done well.  It would work great for a gaff handle.  I have seen it done on boat rails with turk or pineapple knots on the ends.  It really looks sharp.

I have pictures of a sailors black powder horn I really want to copy for my re-enactment kit.  The horn has a turks head on the spout and is needle hitched over the butt plug.
