Thanks for all the suggestions guys!  I was really frustrated last weekend, but looks like I just need to change it up a bit.  :smt004

I did have a spinning setup with me, but was using it for dropshotting. But it's nice to have something you can just quickly cast when your fighting wind and current.  Hard to dropshot when your being blown away from the spot 2-3MPH.

Going to go back to 8LB test, I put the 6LB to see if it helped with casting.  And I'll try some bigger lures. I picked up some deep runners, and 8-10ft bombers, will see if I can catch anything on these guys and use the smaller lures for trolling (which have worked great on trout!).

Also going to give the lip-less crankbaits a try again, though I rarely have success with them, they are easy to cast and you can control the depth pretty well.  Kinda hard to do a slow presentation though.

Might even pick up the reel magic, since it looks like that can help for storage as well.

I learned a lot reading this thread.

Crankbaits were all I used as a kid...  I need to get back into them.

When I buy crankbaits I open the box in the store and inspect it before I buy.

I run my fingers over the lure to detect any flaws in the finish.

Check the glueline on plastics to make sure they glued the half's together straight.

Look at the lip and hook hangers/line tie to make sure they are straight, pull on them to make sure they are not loose.

Check the hooks and split rings I've bought the same cranks that had different hooks and split rings.

If it has screw eyes I use a little lock tite to make sure that it stays straight to the body don't use it on the line tie as you may need it to tune.

Double check the line tie to make sure it moves freely in all positions if it hangs up at all the lure will never run right I have found a lot of these in Brad's/weewart type that has the recessed hole in that hole the little wire that the fiqure 8 attaches to if that wire is set too deep or back too far in the recess it will hang up and the lure will never run right. Brads are much better than WW but I find a few.

When I get home I check it again before taking it out (magnifier desk lamp)

Don't tune your lures when you are fishing or take a trip just to tune your lures.

If you get line twist when using cranks you lure is not tuned  :smt002
