Yes, the boaters are getting half-limits of dungies in approx 220ft NE of the mile buoy. Sublimits and 200ft+ is standard op procedure, unfortunately. You'd have better luck out of Moss or SC.
And all of Carmel Bay is a reserve. The bay itself is a SMCA so you can't take crabs. And if you paddled out beyond the SMCA border, you'd be in really deep water. Probably too deep to bother crabbing.

Thanks Sin Coast.   I'll be visiting relatives there Thanksgiving week and I might try some crabbing.  How deep are they getting them at Moss?  200ft+ is pretty deep.  I might have to buy more lines and more weight.

I think they get them a little bit shallower out of Moss, like 150ft. But I'm not completely positive about that (just guessing from years' past). But I think you have a better shot at some keepers out of Moss, regardless of depth. I plan to try 80-100ft out of Moss soon--maybe I'll join you if not on the road visiting family.

That will be great if you can join me.  If I do go I will be taking my boat.  Itching to try my 3 promar traps setup now and one heavy duty non-collapsible I just got from FW in SJ.
