Id like to fish Monterey Bay for Sand Dabs but not sure how deep or where to fish. I understand that a Sabiki line works great. Any advice or recommendations greatly appreciated.

Hoppy,

When I fished there for squid bait about 2 weeks ago, I was catching sand dabs with the sabiki pretty much everywhere.  I caught some by the red bell buoy and yellow buoy by the hotel in seaside/del monte.  I tend to catch more by going all the way to bottom and then slowly jigging up.  Hope you get some.  They are small but really tasty eating when fried.  You probably already know that.  I used to live in Seaside during my army days.  I met a lot of pinoys there.

Hi Hoppy!  :smt006

I find dabs in 80-120ft near the mile buoy (to the NE in 100ft) using a sabiki tipped w/squid tentacles and about 3oz sinker. Drop it all the way to the bottom, then give a little slack so the entire sabiki rig drags across the bottom (not just the bottom 1-2 hooks)...this gives you a chance to catch like 4-5 dabs per cast. Some people put a small split-shot sinker at the top of the sabiki to ensure all of the hooks are dragging across the bottom.
Just remember to use the sabiki before trying for rockies. Because you can't use more than 2 hooks if you have rockies onboard. Good luck!

I dont know if it actually helps, but I like my idea  :smt003  I added a large sliver/blue kastmaster (removed the hook) at the top, and a 1/2oz sinker on the bottom of my sabiki.  Goal was to lay the sabiki flat, but add a lil' flash when the line gets bobbed up and down.  I landed a ton of dabs that day! :smt044

You have all winter to go after dabs. I would go looking for rockies while you still can.
