The Smith is THE place.  I would have loved for you to feel the love of legal fishing nature-boy :smt003.  Remember to bring your a-game to the swift, gin-clear waters of the Smith.  Good luck next time,

Well, to be honest, I hope we have a similar warm and fuzzy feeling right now, Sean.   :smt056

Glad you got some time to sneak away from work and get some fishing in!!!!

I really enjoy reading/watching your reports and hearing your opinion/perspective...

I am relatively new to fishing in California and am still formulating my own beliefs about how I should be interacting with our fisheries....I think the more I learn, and the more opinions I hear, the better I will be able to make well informed decisions about when/how/what to take for dinner and what to let go....

I know the issues at hand are very complex, and I have a lot to learn, but I appreciate being able to be on this website and read the perspectives of all the members...

Anyway, thanks again for sharing and better luck next time!!!

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks for the great report Abking. I really dig your enthusiasm and the documentation you bring with each report.

I couldn't have said it better BigJim...I am also learning so much about the different fisheries and the sensitivity that goes along with them, primarily through the various discussions on this site. Thanks to all for sharing there opinions and experiences for all to benefit.

I do know one thing for sure, I definitely am not a threat to any of the fisheries. I can't seem to find the fish. What I really need to do is participate in all the events to learn from the masters.

Take care all,
Ray

The Smith is my favorite river in CA. Distance and work restraints limit my fishing there to a couple of times per year though. I go for salmon in Nov. and steel in Feb.-Mar., weather and time off work permitting.
I'll be up there the next time it rains and the low-flow closure is off and I'm hoping to bring the yak up there and anchor in the fish lane.
Two years ago I got a bright 48+# King and I regret bonking it. It was a long fight and when it finally came to the driftboat it was on it's side and I didn't think it would revive. If that happens again I'll do more to see if it will come back to life because it's important to keep the genes of those hogs in the river where they belong.
I have to admit though that anything I catch under 40# is going in my smoker.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!
