With all the attack reports lately I have been thinking about that a lot. Not really worried about getting attacked, just gotta make sure my boats not the smallest out there right< :smt003

Dude - not funny! I always have the smallest kayak out there!  :smt010

Speaking of sharks...

I took this pic at Berkeley Pier about two years ago.

Small GW or very big 6 or 7-gill??

I'm not worried about 6 gills.  And I don't think I'm worrying too much about 7 gills either.

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Gallery/Descript/BSixgill/Bsixgill.html ... "This shark has not been reported to attack people without being provoked. According to the International Shark Attack File, there has been only one documented provoked attack on a human since the 1500s. "

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Gallery/Descript/Sevengill/Sevengill.html ... "The sevengill shark is aggressive when provoked and is considered potentially dangerous to humans. According to the International Shark Attack File, the sevengill shark has been responsible for five documented unprovoked attacks on humans since the 16th century. This species has attacked divers in captivity when kept in aquaria. "

As soon as you see a fin, use your paddle and tip your "Pal" over  :smt077

speaking of which, I had lunch with Chris/cpyak last Saturday and we plan to organize a "Kayaking Joust" contest the next time we have a derby. All we need is a couple of helmets (full face preferably) and well have the 2 competitors paddle towards each other (at full speed) and use their paddles to knock each other out. (thought inspired by the show "JACKASS"  :smt002

Its the fins you don't see that pose the biggest threats.  If they're hunting you're not gonna know they're there till its too late.

BTW Jousting sounds like fun...How about we mix in Kayak Chicken Fights too.  Two men per boat, one on the bow, one with a paddle.....and let the bow guys go at it till one is swimming.

Mooch I think having a guy like Chuck would make a good team. He is so nimble and balanced that it would be tough to tip him.  The big guys may have stability trouble :smt002

That's a (big) dead seal with its head MIA and a pretty large shark bite taken out of the left side.   :shark

It was floating at the foot of Berkeley Pier.

As far as the time goes - mine is correct. You may need to adjust something somewhere.  :smt102

Prolly a sevengill, GWs don't come in the bay much - I think they're more of a visual predator than the bay sharks.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
