There's a ton of bait in there right now. Never what your going to sabiki up. Last time I got mackerel, smelt, and sardines, and there's shiners there too. The place is alive for sure. Got to keep an eye on the furbags out here. They come by and check you out. Glad you got to duke it out even though it was an unintended  release. Fall is one of the best times near the coast.

I would blame it on Ariel  :smt003 I took picture of the sleighride but when I saw the Hali color and how big it was somehow Ariel's advise (earlier post when Jedmo lost his big Hali when trying to take picture of the barely hooked one) popped in my head: " you put the fish on the game clip first then take all the pictures you want"  :smt003

What kind of fish is that you guys were catching for bait fish? I've fished Tomalles Bay for a while from shore. Leopards are all over as well as the sting rays. I've caught a few of those bait fish but had no idea what they were. Way to go on getting out there and hooking into a Hali. There is a reason it's called fishing and not catching.  :smt044 :smt005

I'm in for some Mackerels Sonny.  They have this video on you tube on preparing macs with green onion sashimi style.  Need to catch at least 5 to make a good meal though.  I'll pm you soon :smt002

The most abundance bait fish out there right now are Smelts,  but you can also catch Mackerels, Sardines, and Herrings too.

You'll have better luck catching Macks around the kelp beds in front of the beaches right across from the Hog's island.

Thanks Sailfish. I usually fish the delta and am more familiar with the fish in there. New to kayaking but so far I'm liking it a lot.
