Yeah, it doesn't have to be a milk crate either. Just measure the ideal dimensions for your "tackle storage container" then go shopping, with a tape measure. The employees of ACE, OSH, Depot, Longs, Walmart, and Kragen might give you funny looks as you measure the width of a dog-food tupperware lid...but it's worth it!
I had an old Drifter and couldn't find anything to fit in the odd-shaped tankwell. After tinkering with a few random items, I ended up with a waterproof file-folder container. I simply replaced the hinges, added a locking mechanism, some pad-eyes to secure it in the tankwell, and installed 4 pvc rod holders....and it worked great!
Sadly, I still wander through the tupperware + storage isles looking for the next-best-thing for tankwell tackle storage, with a tape measure in my pocket and hatch+tankwell dimensions written on a post-it in my wallet...... :smt005

I just started and Im already doing that!   :smt003

I checked office depot and the one they had was serious flimsy for 7 bucks..  so today I was in home depot getting a few things and happened to see a guy with a crate..  found them and they are WAY more sturdy than the office depot crate, tho less sturdy than the old milk crates that I have.  3 bucks.   so I got one and mounted some rocket launchers to it... should work fine for tossing a few things in and holding the gaff, net and headknocker.    pic below!

Tomorrow Im heading up to get some flush mount rod holders and a regular swiveling rod holder to mount up front.   That should get me rolling.  I may eventually do that plano box rig tho.. looks sweet!

I've used an Office Max crate for years and it holds up to abuse.  They are much lighter than a grocery crate.  But I do take too much stuff.  Rod holders: round plastic downspout, not pvc pipe.

True dat!  Huge weight difference between the crate I hooked up and one of my milk crates.. those things have a metal band around the top even.   Im starting to wonder if I'm worrying too much about where to store things and when I get out there.. "ok.. where do I put the fish... "   :smt0
