Littoral,
My family usually camps in the Park... before it burned last year... I always wanted to launch out of there .... it looks well south of the closure and the mountains to the south of the beach promise fine structure in the water ... A few years ago we watched a guy in a P13 surfing the beach to the north of big rocks that make the first cove.... he was repeatedly dumped and pounded there ... it must have been practice I never saw him fish or get out ...Southern bailout I believe would be a little protected cove where they use to bring in supplies to the area by boat ...a tunnel goes through the hill and and a dirt road up to Hwy 1.... it would be a short climb/pull the yak up by rope from the water ... then the narrow trail and tunnel to the road up.
I believe I've seen pictures of it from some of the shore fisher guys but this may be one of the spots we are never to discuss

Please let me know if you go,

Gue

Yes, Pfeiffer Beach is legal fishing grounds. The southern border to the Pt Sur SMR is about a mile+ to the north. I’ve hiked/climbed all the way to the actual border (Cooper Pt). Great shore fishing btw. And the offshore kelpbeds look promising…no to mention the rocky headlands to the south and the great potential for elusive Big Sur halibut off the beach itself.
I have not launched there, but I know a few NCKAers that have. If I recall, the fishing was not as good as expected.
I would suspect the best + easiest launch w/b just north of the big rock, unless you want to cart it all the way north to the first rocky point. I’ve experienced this beach in all different kinds of conditions from huge waves to meager ankle-slappers. Have fished that shoreline many times.

It’s funny to hear Gue say Southern Bailout. I haven’t heard that term for years! Most people call it Partington Cove. A few people have discussed the possibility of launching there. But it is a LONG portage even with wheels. Heck, I usually have to stop 2-3X while walking back to the car with only a backpack and fishing rod! Much less a kayak and gear hahaha. Not that it can’t be done. It would just require a lot of work.
Photobucket Sucks!
