My Son and I went out of Carmel River Beach today.  The ocean was flat and the vis looked about 15 to 20 ft if your a diver.  Any how, we tried deep first, but no bites.  We came in shallow about ~30ft of water and finaly got a few each. Nothing to brag about, but we got dinner!   The wind started up a 11am and blew us off the water soon there after.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Good stuff. Based on the title, I thought you yakked down the river! That w/b sweet. Always good vis there...15-20ft is actually normal. Part of the reason I like that place so much--it's almost tropical!

You can put-in at Los Padres dam and kayak all the way to the ocean. At least, you can during winter/early spring when there's max flows. But I wouldn't do the upper section in a SOT...too many strainers. There is a death every couple years there. Here ya go: http://www.cacreeks.com/carmel3.htm
Hey Andy, I want to borrow one of your miniyaks to fish Los Padres Res soon. Because it's too far a walk to take my T140. Been there, done that, never again. http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,6076.0.html
