Hey Eric,

We're still alive and kickin. I would have offered dad's place but......ex military and POW with bouts of dementia and lost of loaded guns around the house........it might not be the best choice  :smt044
Seriously I can't think of anything else out there that has not already been mentioned here. Pick one and call it home for a night.
I am looking forward to fishing with you again. My wife is also making plans to join you all in her T15 you so kindly brought down. (I have yet to even try it out) She loves it!!! Thank you again!!!
It sounds like it is going to be a fun weekend to say the least. Lets all pray the weather spirits show some mercy on us! Then just go for it and have fun.

Sadly I won't be able to attend both events.  The wife's company is having their annual party on Saturday.  I do plan on making Sunday's event though and very much looking forward to it.

Attention all Kayak Anglers,
Come join our 3rd annual Kayak Fishing Derby <http:// www.montereybaykayaks.com/fishing/index.php> sponsored by Monterey Bay Kayaks, Ocean Kayak and Santa Cruz Kayak Fishing. This is a benefit for the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Restoration Project.
First place for the heaviest game fish caught (and weighed on time) will be an Ocean Kayak Trident 13, second place is an Aquabound paddle and third place is a pair of polarized sunglasses.

If you do not own your own fishing kayak, rentals will be available for an additional $30.00. It is best to make a reservation for this event, especially if you need to rent a fishing kayak as we have limited kayak availability. Please call our toll-free number to register at 800-649-5357.

All details and rules of the derby are below:

Where: 693 Del Monte Ave, Monterey
Entry Fee: $35.00 ($30.00pp additional fee for fishing kayak rentals) Check-in time: 6:30am Launch time: 7:00am Weigh-in time: 12:00pm BBQ Lunch: 12:30pm
Requirements: Legal fishing permit
More Info: Pre-registration highly recommended but on-site registration available starting at 6:30am.

Derby Rules:
*All fish entered must be caught from a kayak, without the aid of a powerboat.
*Must have a valid fishing license displayed while fishing.
*All DFG rules apply, including the multiple rod rule.  If you are fishing for halibut and have no rockfish aboard, you can fish with 2 rods.  One RCG fish on the boat=one rod only.
*Launch and landing from Del Monte Beach by MBK only. Travel to other areas for launching and fishing not permitted.
*12:00 noon is the “cut-off” weigh-in time. Anglers must be present and in line for weigh-in by noon to qualify.
*Heaviest weighed sport-fish wins.
*Leopard and Thresher sharks included, but no other sharks or rays qualify.
*If two fish have exact equal weight, then the longer of the two wins.
*Final decisions on any controversy will be made by Derbymeister Allen Bushnell with input from participants.

Extra lunches available for $7.00 per non-registered persons.
Happy Paddling,
MBK Crew

I am down with the MBK Tourney but the Friday before is the beginning of family vacation so while I have MBK Saturday nailed down Sunday might be tough due to a dearth of WAF points. So I think my kayak will be in freshwater in the Sierra Sunday going after Trout. But I''l se what I can do--if I can i'll camp at Sunset beach.

i looked around at the websites for most of those campgrounds
from what i can tell
manresa, sunset, seacliff, new brighton, watsonville koa, and henry cowell have no space available for online reservation - are they booked up or will there be space open for first come first serve types?

the only places i could find are up towards pescadero, but i really dont feel like driving from mbk all the way to pescadero and then back down to sc.

I am kind of surprised as I just now looked as well. all in all it makes sense. This recession means more "stay-cations" (i.e. local camping) and the crowded Bay Area (over 6 million people -- 12 x the population of the entire state of Alaska) ensures a lot of demand for local campsites (and mostly everything else for that matter). I'll jsut be waking at 0345 to drive down to Monterey it seems and the same with Davenport if I can do it.

If camp Andy is full  :smt003 .... check out Laguna Seca on hwy 68. It is a short 15 min drive to MBK from there. I have no clue what they charge to camp. Y'all really should call Andy/fishmaster1 (The best time to call is around 3AM) From the stories I hear there is always room for a few more at Andy's

What I heard from last year, the MBK let some people camp overnight in their parking lot. Is this true?  :smt001

TOTALLY true, and it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!  Same situation as here, no one could find last minute camping so they let us sleep overnight in the lot.
