action that we can't get on the yaks near shore

If the reports down at Monterey get to within 10 miles again

maybe one of these days soon

Its a 2.5 mile paddle from SWS to the 1000ft (magic albie number) depth in the Carmel Canyon. I believe that is the closest the shelf comes to land along the Cal coast..... :smt002

So what's it like to fish the ocean w/o immersion protection and PFD's?  :smt044

Not spending as much time on the PB these days Patrick and I have discussed this very issue. Fishing rods not leashed and having to move carefully around on deck is very different. Safety on the boat is totally different as well... much more that can go wrong. We do feel safer these days with an EPHIRB and self inflating rescue raft always at the ready as well as our kayak radios and hand held gps as backups. Out in the shipping lanes we always yield to the ships (almost a bad experience 20 years ago) as they are moving much faster than they seem. I am much more at home on the kayak!
Not getting seasick is another plus. I take a few breaks and lay in the v-berth and mack on sandwiches and pizza...that's usually when the reels will start singing, when you are distracted...just like on a kayak.

Very cool. I could almost feel the pull on the line with that video! Watching the vid is the closest I've come to catching an albacore :smt044.

Albacore are always great fun. But too bad they are mostly for boats in this latitude.
