You guys didn't skip to page 10, did you? Some of these guys get paid nothing for what is actually a pretty dangerous (and extremely unthankful)  job.

I'm looking at page 30 right now. Wardens have pretty much have disappeared in the listings, but there's one on this page making a $69K. Not extravagant, but not a pittance either.

Wow, that's a cool search function.  FOIA requests are pretty powerful.  Who would have thought there would be 1346 people with the last name NGUYEN working for the state??? Amazing...

But don't get too riled over these data - they are not wholly accurate.  I'm certain that a DAG III makes more than the ~$42K reported for her.

First Name
Last Name
Salary Year   2008
Job Title   DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL III
Department   JUSTICE
Regular Pay   $34,166
Overtime Pay   $0
Other Pay   $7,712
Total Pay   $41,878

I did, in fact I went past page 10.

I guess it's all relative; maybe I'm the one getting paid nothing!

I went to the Corrections section.  I had to get all the way to page 600 before I found someone making less than 100k.

I don't know if I should be disgusted......or if I should fill out an application with the DOC.

If you select Fish and Game from the pull-down menu, it will return 10 pages of records. The last 2 pages show a lot of Wardens making under 40K, which is not very much considering the nature of their job. Heck, I considered taking the required courses and entering the academy to become a F&G Warden, but it would've meant an initial paycut. And right now daddy needs all the money he can get---otherwise who's gonna buy that sweet Thomas the Train drawbridge for the little guy?  :smt005
Yeah, corrections officers make bank when you factor the OT.

dont forget to factor in retirement benefits.  For example if you wanted to buy yourself a pension of 2500 a month when you retire, you are looking at an upfront cost of half a million.  Not taking sides on if they are worth it, but rather saying to compare apples to apples, that cost has to be included in compensation.

compare the dfg wardens to the chp officers and you can understand why it is so hard to attract and retain wardens.

Most of the fish and game wardens are making a little more than $80,000.  The ones making in the 30's range have to be working part time as retirees coming back on board to help out.  or something like that.  The position starts at about 42,000.

I dunno if they're making out, but they're doing pretty good if you like that work.  The guys I know love doing it.  They make more than I do.  i can tell you that.

That's what I found from the search as well. Not bad, esp if you factor in state employee benefits & retirement.

Still not bad for starting. Again, factor in benefits & retirement and it's nothing to scoff at. Don't take a price of benefits for granted - lots people ain't gettin' 'em anymore and state employees get way more than a lot of folks (at least right now - might be a different story next week...).

Working for the government is like the turtle and working in the private sector is like the hare. The turtle makes a steady wage that slowly increases with the growth of taxes and the economy, while the hare goes from zero to 100 and back and forth. The hare just has to be on his game enough to have the foresight to forecast the future.

Just my two cents.
