Cast as far as you can, retrieve is base on your gear ratio: 6.1 ratio or higher slow retrieve is recommended, anything else slow to moderate, "how do I fish it?" honestly I am still trying to figure that one out :smt003 I just copy what usually others do. not necessary deep water they are actually riding the waves!! I hope it helps Good luck

Nice bass, Darius. And congrats on getting them w/artificials too.
Troy, there are a lot of bass in MoBay right now. This is easily the best year for surf stripers in over a decade. At least, as far as this part of coast is concerned. The general consensus was that bass migrate through here infrequently (compared to the Peninsula), but they seem to be taking up residence and growing in numbers the past few years. You just gotta put in the work and stay up-to-date on the ocean conditions (and know how to use that info to your advantage). Heck, I met a guy last week that claimed 40+ bass over 10lbs this year. All caught on lures. All released. And I actually believe him.

Sin Coast is right, between May to mid august are the best time to catch stripers on surf, there had been great reports from monterey bay to Ocean beach, I haven't seen this good in years, even brisbane and oyster point are doing descent bait fishing, the biggest factor is the Tide, right on peak, when they start bitting, early morning or late evening are your best bet, Good luck out there keep a tight line!!

Clip onto the swivel, and we use 18" leader.

Hmmm... so you guys have your main line attached to a barell swivel, than you have a 18in leader on the other end of the swivel, with a clip swiver on the end of the leader, with your lure attached to that?

Yes, The leader is basically a stronger line my main line is only 15lbs My leader is 30lbs, it helps when your trying to drag it from the waves..
