Fished from 10AM to 3PM = score: 2 black and yellow RF (released) :smt011

I was fishing blind and was hoping to find the kelp beds but to no avail = NO KELP IN SIGHT :smt013 Fished towards Scott Creek then tried the area by the Cement Plant....fished shallow, fished deep. Paddled everywhere. Even tried trolling a swimbait in hopes of locating a school of black and blues....no joy :smt012 Pretty frustrating but I would rather be out there than anywhere else :smt002

Many thanks to Marv / Shiken for the loaner kayak :smt008

A local Surfer / Kayak Fisherman mentioned a shark attacking a sea lion witnessed by a stand up paddle dude last week. I did see about a dozen sea lions the whole time I was fishing....this is why this particular area gives me the heebee-geebees :smt009

Three and four years ago, I caught fish regularly at Davenport. Not wide open, but never skunked, and even picked up a couple halibut in the shallows there.

The last two years I've been skunked there, so I share your pain. I've heard of PB's finding rockfish there, but perhaps in deeper water, maybe 130 to 150 feet?

Here's hoping the fishies come back!
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

Sometimes the fish got lockjaw, nothing you can do. Except blame it on the small S swell that rolled through......

Well Joel atleast you caught something.

From my sources and also looking at the ocean it is still a bit cool for this time of year and cooler than last year. IT keeps the rockfish tight and lethargic so you literally have to bounce the jig right on their head or leave it in front of them till it ticks them off. IT was like that early last year when the water temp was 52 degrees and it is colder than that in some places

Yup, I tried the sandy area for Halibut as well..(bouncing a fish trap)...I've caught them there before (a 15# and 22 #er). IMO: the lack of kelp leaves less cover for the RF to hide from - the sealions where all over the place  :smt011

I'm glad that you made it out Mooch. I had to work.
I agree with the above post that the water temp is still too cool for any real action. I'll post later about my similar experience.
Let's get 'em later this summer.
