THAT is a nice knife, solsfr1. Some day . . . some day . . .

In the meantime, I'm thinking I'll get a pair of these shears from Scuba.com:

I keep a knife on the pfd but these shears should be able cut through all cords & such we keep on yak.

Sporth Authority has 30% off on their Gerber knives this week.  I just bought the Prodigy - listed at $63 minus 30% minus 25% coupon - got it for $33.

I checked out several.  This one had a sticky grip and has to be pulled from the sheath.  It won't fall out.  Blade is 4.75 inches, stainless black oxide coated.

that gerber looks pretty serious, but may not take to kindly to the salt. i really like the wenokas. They never rust and the snap-lock feature makes access easy and secure. I watched Ariel-sea make quick-work of a good sized octopus with his large wenoka. it was very impressive.

I like the look of the knife Eric Kunz recommends, cheap and simple. I'll have to get one.

Here's another thought: I've long used trauma shears, those little reinforced scissors that EMTs use for cutting clothes and bandaging. You can find them in hardware stores, Northern Tool, etc. Should be just a few bucks a pair, and they work great for cutting fishing line and cutting bait. They rust if you don't rinse them, but will work for a long time, and are cheap enough to be considered disposable. You'd be hard pressed to cut yourself with them. They work better than knives for cutting tag ends of knots and stuff like that.

I always have a few in my truck, in the garage, on the boat.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.
