I also have a wenoka pdf knife its a nice piece of equipment with many uses. Mine is a titanium blade which has held up very well for 3 years.

same here  :smt006  also have the titanium blade = IT WILL NEVER RUST ON YOU  :smt045 (I have gone through so many knives that rusted on me :smt011)

*I was fishing Davenport on a windy day and my bow dug into a nasty chop that carried a few kelp strands over it....got my knife out (attached to my vest) and quicky cut the strands of kelp before it got too top heavy. IMO: yes, a good knife is worth having :smt045

I've had my Wenoka Titanium dive knife on my pfd for over 5 years now. Use it on almost every outing wether cutting kelp, cutting line, stabbing fish, gutting fish, or cleaning the dirt from under my finger nails. It's alway come in handy.

 Ditto...

Love mine,   and noticed there on sale at Leisure pro,  think I'll buy another one...

I like my CRKT 16.   I think its just important to have an knife with you for safety reasons.  One of the guys on the spearboard made a good comment something like get a cheap one because you are going to lose it.  I don't like cheap, cheap swapmeet stuff, but any name brand $30+ knife these days will be of good quality.  Some guys will throw down hundred$ of buck$ for knife but I think that's a waste... since you're gonna lose it anyway.

I always carry a dive knife on my  lower leg. If you ever overturn and an anchor line, sabiki' or leash is involved as well as kelp it could prove to be crucial tho it would take some bad luck as well. Better safe than sorry.
I have a bait knife front and center that I use all the time, for bait, for re rigging etc.. If you ever fish while drifting and get hung up on the bottom , it can save you from a yard sale.
Bait knifes  are cheap and dive knifes can be had for under $20.00 on e-bay although you could get a quality one for not much more by bidding all the time till you score.
I gut my rockfish out on the water, good news for crabs.

thanks for the info on knives, I'm a newbie and appreciate all the helpful threads on stuff like this. Sounds like having one on your vest is a good idea.

Why I have a knife on my PFD:  In my maybe overactive imagination, I'm flipped out of my yak, but one foot is wrapped in a rod leash or line or some damn thing, and I'm hanging on with my off hand trying unsucesfullyto leverage myself back in.  I reach to the left front side of my vest where my knife sheath is attached upside down with velcro sewn to the vest,  with the bungie loop through the handle hole looped over the tip end of the sheath (which also keeps the knife from slipping down out of the sheath even tho the sheath has one of those roller snaps to keep it in),  slip the bungie loop off and around my wrist so I don't lose the knife, yank it out of the sheath and cut the leash, etc.,  and get back in the yak.  And probably cut myself putting the knife away!
It's a cheapie Big 5 knife, maybe 5" blade,  I rinse, dry and  oil it, but it gets rust spots, still in good operating shape,  but  I've only used it on a refuse-to-die flattie.  It doesn't have any serrated edge at all, and I'd rather have some down near the handle.   It helps that the sheath has an attachment hole near the tip, as well as a belt loop by the handle to be able to attach it firmly to the vest, that way there's nothing protruding to snag on the way back into the yak.  I also carry a small folding knife in a sheath (like a long pocket with a flap) I made of some wetsuit rubber sewn to the right side of my vest attached with a thin bungie lanyard, for bait cutting, just have it there because I'd leave it home or sit on it otherwise.

Sometime back someone posted that they carried those cut-all emergency scissors, and I think they might work better on a lot of things and be safer to wield.  But they probably wouldn't frighten away pirates.

Hey Tom....I think I'd be more afraid of seeing someone paddling around and waving scissors around  :smt005

I was pretty interested in the SOG's after watching Man VS Wild.  Bit pricey though.

so worth it though. the pup is only like $65. plus it makes a great hunting knife, dual use. And it takes a scary edge.

You can get those CRKT Ultima 5" knives at Sierra for $32 (with the right deal flyers) and the M16-10kz (with the cheaper AUS4 steel)  for about $19 including shipping on eBay.

nice thing about the sog is it will never rust. i bought mine 8 years ago for a elk hunt, since then it has gone on countless hunting and fishing trips, not one rust spot anywhere.

I will *NEVER* buy CRKT again...  I bought many of them, mostly from ebay, due to their attractive styles and supposive quaity to only have every last one of them rust on me.  EVEN THE A.B.C. Aqua, supposivly made for water use, rusted after its first journey.

i had a crkt once, thank goodness it was given to me and i did'nt waste money on it. One of the worst knives i ever had, rusted and it didn't sit comfortable in your hand. for a knife that i'm gonna use in a water enviroment its only a sog for me. when i'm done fishing i just wash it off in the surf an dry it on my pants, still no rust. Don't try that with very many other knives.people spend big bucks on nifty dive knives when a pup is fairly cheap. plus the new style of sheath is really cool. you can cut line without taking the knife out of the sheath, plus the sheath is made so you can rig it any way you want.

I use a plastic and stainless knife with a plastic sheath, I think it cost me about $2.99.
