Hook1 does a 10% off your next order. I can dig up the code.

Could you please, I'm going to be making a significant purchase from them in the next week.

I have made several PVC carts. I reinforce the PVC by inserting hardwood dowels and attach with brass screws.  The wood dowels and inflatable Northern Tool tires make them float.  My carts store up side down in my tank well scuppers and I use it for a back rest.  The cart works work well on hard surfaces, grass, and packed sand.  They do not work on soft sand or rocks.

I have tried several commercial carts and this is the one that I like the best.  It is made by Kayakfishingstuff and they have applied for a patent.  They call it the Ultimate.

This cart is powder coated aluminum, it is light, and is adjustable.  It breaks down and will store anyplace there is room for the wheels.  I also store this one inverted in the rear tank well scupper holes.  It provides positive back support.   With the Wheeleze wheels, it floats.

If you think you want to go this route, I will post pictures.

Pictures are always a plus.
I love the ground clearance. How difficult is it for one person to line up the scupper holes?
It seems that you would not be able to get a true center balance with this cart making it feel a little heavier when pulling.
I have never been a fan of a cart that uses the scuppers as a mount for the kayak, but I guess if Hobie does it maybe it's ok. Just not my cup of tea.
I would still like to see some pics if you have them.

Tote,

You raise a couple of good points.  Regarding front to rear balance, I put more weight in the back than the front.  There is very little lifting and all the energy is used to pull.  I learned the hard way at Elk.

Regarding scupper hole carts, I have tried a couple of carts with straps but always went back to the scupper carts.  Until I found the Ultimate, I had a different cart for each of my four boats, because the scupper width is different on each one.  The Scrambler is close to 20 years old and no scupper problems.  The utimate works on the Scupper Pro, Scrambler XT, Hobie Outback and Mainstream tandem.  I haven't tried it on my Necky Dolphin.  It might not work because of the small scupper holes; 3/4 PVC definitely won't fit.  I use a strap cart for the Dolphin.

Getting the cart into the scuppers can be tricky, especially with the Outback.  I attach the wheels before I load the cart.  Sometimes I have to tip it onto one side to insert the cart.

The Ultimate is definitely stable and sturdy.  The only disadvantage is the width.  I can't get it through my backyard gate with Outback, but that is my widest yak.

Here are pics of the homemade type carts and the Ultimate.

Same here. I don't recommend them at all. The scupper holes are usually the area in a kayak that developes leaks. Putting more strain in them -  using those type of kayak racks may do damage in the long run.

If you buy from Hook1 = mention "mooch"  :smt002
