Hi

I am wondering if anyone has used this product or has thoughts on an inexpensive kayak cart.

[url] [http://www.rei.com/product/738003/url]
REI is having a sale and offering 20% off on kayak stuff.  Sale ends Sunday. So if I am purchasing I figure to do it by then.  I have looked at the articles on building one online and I am possible thinking of building one, but it does not seem that cheap or easy When you consider the purchase of the wheels etc.. I am not the most mechanical either. I wanted to stay around $100 or less for a purchase. Any words of wisdom oh mighty ones?
Thanks
Lee

I went the inexpensive route only to regret it later and got a set of wheeleez. If you plan on hitting any rocks, stairs or sand. Get the wheeleez.

After building 2 carts of my own with some pretty nice wheels, thye still weren't worth a damn in the sand, I still couldn't give up so I went to wheeleez and got their 30 cm POLYURETHANE wheels for my homemade cart and am happy.

If you're not all that mechanical I would suggest going ahead and spending the money for a Wheeleez Kayak cart with the 30 cm POLYURETHANE wheels.  Confirm the wheel type by phone.

IMHO,  DO NOT buy one with the PVC wheels

Like others, I tried going the inexpensive route first and regretted it. I ended up buying Wheeleez. The cost is pretty daunting, but in the long run buying something else first only to end up buying Wheeleez is even more expensive.

I think you'll hear the same story from a lot of people on this site.

+1 for the rolleze / wheeleze.

If you NEVER plan on using your cart to go through sand then the one you referenced would be OK.

I made one kayak cart out of PVC it worked OK on hard ground or pavment.  I used the 4.99 wheels from harbor freight.  It sank in the sand and you could not pull it.  It worked about three trips then I went over a rock and the PVC broke.  I made the next one out of 1" pipe and put dual wheels on it it still sank in the sand but has not broken yet.  It was cheep but the time I have spent making it and fixing it I could have worked O/T and got a couple of sets of wheeles.

That is the money cart that everybody loves!  Don't know how many people have purchased through Beach Cart USA though.  Nothing against them but I say support Hook1 because they support us!  It looks like Hook1 sells it for $185.99 vs. BCUSA at $199.  However BCUSA offers free shipping and I don't know about Hook1.  You might ask.

Hook1 does a 10% off your next order. I can dig up the code. I'd bet you could call or email Karen and she'll match the price. They are really a great company.

Do these break down to fit in your hatch

Depends on the kayak.  I think it is tight fit on most hatches.

At BCUSA there is an optional "rail" ... is that necassary

I don't know of anybody that uses it but that doesn't mean it isn't being used.  I personally don't use one but that is because my yak doesn't need it.  In fact, I can't think of any kayaks that would need it but I'm far from the expert.
