Abdiver - I debated between the rectangular flush mount and the above deck one I used.  Decided to use the above deck because it keeps the anchor and bottom of the flush mount from dragging in the water when I'm in the boat. Don't know if that would make much of a difference either way. Have been thinking about switching to the flush mount just to try it out and lower the total height, but current version works well and keeps everything from dragging so I haven't bothered. No problems with line angles, works real smooth. I removed the locking mechanism then re-installed the screw and metal tube that held the lock in place, line runs freely through the front opening, no problems with any kind of line wear to date.

Nice looking anchor, uh, I mean anchor system. :smt006

I usually carry around 40'  of braided clothline poly its like $5.00 for a hundred feet cut it in half tie your knots and still have an extra line. It doesn't stretch and I don't feel bad when I have replace the line after it gets chewed up. I tie my anchor with an anchor bend knot finished off with a double fisherman, the thing is going no where. At the other end of the rope I have a carabiner clipped to the kayak handle with a mooring hitch knot just in case It accidentally gets pulled out of the cleat. This way it will keep me from losing the anchor or if I have to dump it its just a pull and its gone.   For storage I have it wrapped around a plastic extension cord reel.
