i was in montezuma slough a few week ago and the wind came up hard, it took me 45min. to paddle what would regularly take 15min. I was paddling sideways for a mile.

ouch!  i always wonder what i would do in really bad conditions up in san pablo bay. Worst case i think is paddlign to richmond and calling the wife.

i had an encounter with the wind and tide at san quentin last fall.... i launched from dog beach, fished, watched the wind, went to the rod n gun club side to get out of the wind....then COULDN"T make it back under teh bridge...the wind and current were too brutal. Tried a bunch of times, finally went and landed on the m n r side and walked around

Chuck and I were paddling Big Sur when the wind kicked up. I was on a borrowed Kayak (extreme) that was only doing inches against the wind. Rather then tire myself out completely I decided to beach it which I think was the right choice.
Caught a major case of Ivy that day but the boys came to my rescue and helped me lug that tug out at low tide. Thanks again Fuzz,Joe and Chuck could have been a real disaster.
