When I heard that the wind was going hard today on the news my thoughts went to the Stormies that survived Del Valle. People (neighbors & friends) were complaining about how bad the wind was today. I secretly thought,"Wuss".
Diana and I were doing some chores around the house when every now and again some someone would stop and say ,"Hey don't you think it's a little to windy to be doing chores outside".
I'd just smile and think these guys would diffently not make Storm Trooper status. I was actually missing all the comaradrie of that weekend and just smile and say your right.
We of NCKA are a hearty bunch who face Mom Nature for the fun of being in life and what she has to give us.
God Dammit Art where are the t-shirt emblems. I would have worn mine proudly today in these slight breezes :smt044
They said that the winds were at 50 mph.  That one night at Del Valle must have been 60 mph easy. I sit here and am presently pounding my chest with my faithful companion "Bella" the fetch machine :smt004.
I think I need to get out and hit the water pretty soon. My last trip being Del Valle with all the "Storm Troopers".  :smt006 "Gotta Love This Sport"

Frank, I hear you loud and CLEAR!  Was thinking the same thing, and that maybe I should have setup a tent in my back yard to re-live the FNC moment!!  :smt005

I was a bit busy with taxes and home stuff, but now that that's out of the way, will be finishing it up soon!

Thanks,

Art-

I had considered weed wackin' the front yard because I would have had no cuttings to rake up. Let my neighbors clean up after me.  :smt002

i stupidly rode home the long way...and ended up walking my bike up to big rock pass- as my puny legs and lungs and my 34/27 couldn't move me forward...making the turn at nicasio was fun....and coming up SFD i realized what it must be like to be Lance, effortlessly pedaling the slight uphill at nearly 30mph

We had gusts close to 50mph but local news last night said winds up to 63 knots on the outer waters yesterday. That's hurricane force.

In another life I had this basic design in 60+ MPH winds in both canada and in india (guyed out to an inch of its life of course), with no issues...unless you count the incessant snoring of my partner and rattling of the dang tent.

its basically an old North Face VE-24 design with an extra cross, the end points stretched, and the profile narrowed.  Look for quality and crossings of poles...a general rule-the more the better. I'm a believer in long pole sleeves- distributing the loads better than clips.

Hey Storm Troopers.... I was thinking about us at Del Valle last night when I was watching the news about the chaos caused by the wind around the San Mateo bridge.  A commercial fishing boat crashed into the bridge, a big rig trailer blows over, and a crazy kayaker on surf ski needed to be rescued by the Coast Guard.

Who in hell would paddle the bay in near 60 mph winds?......  Insane sh!T!

WHAT??? I saw the boat & the big rig on the news but didn't hear about this one - that's just nuts!

PAT - Would you believe the tent I used at Del Valle was just a cheapy Apine Design "Hiker" tent I got on sale at Sports Authority? Couldn't have paid more that $25 for it but it held up great that night. Didn't blow down & no leaks. I wouldn't use it for serious backpacking but it's great for short camping trips. Only problem is it doesn't seem to be available anywhere right now, at least from a quick web search. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for, though, if anyone's looking for a cheap 1-2 man tent.

See what I mean! Instead of hunkering down were out doing or planning our next adventure :smt001
Hey Chuck, was that kayaker one of us? I heard about this incident from a couple of the guys I swim with just this morning. Must admit that when you mentioned Coast Guard it put a smile on my face. :smt002

i was in montezuma slough a few week ago and the wind came up hard, it took me 45min. to paddle what would regularly take 15min. I was paddling sideways for a mile.
