Hey guys,

Gearing up for rockfish starting this weekend and was wondering what you would recommend everyone have?  Like weights, jigs, swimbaits, hooks etc for different types of rockfishing such as jigging, bait dunking (chovies or squid).

Also specifically for stillwater south, what is the normal depth you guys fish there?

Hey Ben, check out these links for tackle ideas:

For depth I think we are normally around 70fow or less, most fish being caught in the lesser depths.

Hi Ben:

I  use a Stinger 25 Lb. Leader with Owner 1/0 live bait hook and
a 2/0 Treble. I switched from 25Lb. X-Pline to 15Lb. because I need to
give my Fingers a break from the line cuts. :smt044
I have caught fish using a three way with a 2Ft. Stinger Leader
and a Max. of a 8 Oz. Ball or Banana weight. The Banana doesn't hang
up as much.
I also use a sliding Egg with a brass clip a Bead to help protect
the Knot to the Egg.
I keep a few Jigs in case Bait fishing becomes boring. I generally
take 1/2/ doz. pre-tied Leaders (Tip,leave  tail end of your leader
un-knotted until your ready to rig up. Keeps the leader free from tangles)
I use wine Corks  and  a Plano small $2.0 Jig Box to hold my Leaders.
Take some time on shore to "Get your S**T together" before
you go out. Making leader in you Yak is a good way to waist time and
make you Seasick. I carry a Min. of Tackle to keep the confusion to a Min. :smt005

Ben, this is how I organize my kayak rockfish tackle. Results may vary.

I bring 2 plano boxes.
One has leadheads and irons. The other has plastics, terminal tackle, and sabikis/shrimpfly rigs.

Leadhead + Iron Box
-2oz leadheads (2)
-3oz leadheads (2)
-4oz leadhead
-5oz leadhead (will bring a 6oz if the current is up)
-various irons from 3-6ozs (4-5) I use Megabait, crocodile, diamond bars, speed jigs, etc.

Plastics + Terminal Box
-swimbait (4-7in) like fishtraps, in various colors
-curly-tail grubs (4-6 in) like Kalins Magumbos, in various colors (glow!)
-scampis (5-7 in) in various colors (white)
-sabiki rig and maybe a few of those pre-tied shrimpfly rigs (because it is much easier to snap one of those on, instead of tying a whole new dropper-loop rig OTW…focusing on tiny things like knots will make you seasick. Just remember to cut off one of the shrimpflies if you’re gonna put a swimbait/iron at the bottom.)
-some random swivels and barrel swivels
-some hooks (sizes 3/0-6/0 octopus or circles)
-couple random sinkers 2oz-4oz (can also store these inside the Leadhead Box)
-leader material (one of those small leader spools will fit in the plano)

Definitely good to have some sort of pre-tied shrimpfly type rig on hand as sometimes the fish prefer the teaser/small stuff.

that happened a lot last year..

don't be too proud to make sure you have something fluffy/fluttery in the 2" to 3" range to offer them if they dont want the 5" 4oz to 8oz irons or 2oz to 8oz swimbaits.

3" bass tubes make great shrimpfly rigs..
