In Petaluma right now its a chilly low 50's day. Bring your warm clothes for tommorrow. They say up into the 60's but, well, you know. :smt006

Finished making my shrimp pump today, can't wait to try it out tomorrow.  Do we need an air pump to keep the clams/shrimps alive til next day?

No. Sonny you will want to clean the clams when you get home. I will show you. The shrimp will be ok on ice but not touching the freshwater covered with moist paper or a gunny sack

Have you try to eat this clam raw (Sashimi)?

Okie, I guess I'm ready for tomorrow:

- Fishing License
- Shrimp Pump
- Shovel
- Buckets for Shrimps & Clams
- Cooler
- Wet suit, booty, gloves
- Kayak, paddles, PFD
- Camera
- Snacks

Am I missing anything?  Should we bring fishing rod to troll from the launch area to the clamming area?

You guys are digging for gapers, right? For removing the nasty black membrane, I know some people say to soak them in warm water, but I recommend freezing the necks with the skin. Then thaw them and it comes off like a hot knife through butter! Sounds fun!

Hi Malibu_Two,

Yes, we're digging for Gaper clams.  Thank you for the tip about freezing them.  I'll give it a try.

No problem - after you thaw it, just run it under a faucet. Simple as pie.

you can make sashimi out of the neck part only.  it's one of my favorite dish.  make sure all the skin and debris are removed.

TELL ME MORE .... I'm going to LL on the 13th to dig for clams but have never done it before what do i need to know to get into the clams? I heard the move really fast :smt044 really i dont know it should be interesting to say the least.

Hi Shotgun,

Sorry, this was my first time digging for Gaper clamp so I didn't know what to tell you.  After today's experience, I can tell you that digging these clams with a PVC tube is the way to go.  See Ravenblack's report for pictures.
