I was thinking of getting one of these to mount a Garmin and be able to move it between boats (mount on center counsel or rod pod).  Anybody have experience or opinions on these units?

Thanks - John

I have not used the suction-cup models but I really like the micro RAM products. I use them for my fishfinders and to hold my handheld GPS.
The benefit is that I have the option to clear the deck of all my gear. Remove the FF, GPS, etc and all you have is a tiny 1" ball---this is a big bonus when I play in the surf because there isn't a FF base to break/cut myself on.
For my GPS, I just bought the RAM cradle and attached it to the console. I used wingnuts in the back so it's easy to remove it if I want to. Might not be the best method but it works great.....especially when navigating all these friggin MPAs or relocating structure.

You can see where I mounted it on my T140 in this picture.

Thanks for the info PK.  I mounted the FF using a scotty flush mount so I could easily remove it for same reasons.  Found that scotty had made a base for a Piranha FF (just found it last week, listed as new for 08 in their 2008 catalog). Was wondering if the suction cup might work for the GPS - maybe I'll go with the micro ball base?  Thanks again - John

I have had the micro-ball FF mount on my yak which has worked great. I would probably get an extra ball rather than risk loosing suction and well you know....... :smt010
