First time out with the kayak for bass. So after inspection I launched at Anderson at about 8:30 AM. The water was pretty clear and a warm 51*-53*. I stopped at the first spot and practiced one hand paddling while waiting for yellow boat. GotJig appeared suddenly behind me while I was busy retying the drop shot rig. Nice seeing you again GotJig!

Yes, the dropshot was a first too!  :smt005 :smt005 And I still don't know which is better. Carolina or dropshot. Spent an hour or so testing it out in that spot and had a couple of bites that I missed setting the hook on. Then Yellowboat shows up and we head out to the North end.

We started getting hits as soon as we made the first stop, but they would not commit and both yellowboat and I missed a couple of bites. Then I drew first blood:

A few minutes later, yellow boat gets one at 40'+

Then we get a few more bites and misses. So we kept moving further and further into the lake. We got a fish here and there but we could not make the bulk of them to commit. I switch up to the Carolina rig a couple of hours before we had to go back and nail the last fish of the day. I don't know if the dropshot was causing the fish to stop short or they were just into grabbing tails but I missed 7 or 8 bites to the dropshot. I finished the day with 4 rats and 1 dink.

Good report compa. Good to see you diversifying your fishing platforms too  :smt002
I prefer carolina rig to dropshot. But still like split shotting more than carolina style.

Thanks PK. The difference between the Carolina rig and the splitshot rigs is the first is for finiky fish while splitshot is for agressive fish. When the water is warmer and the fish will take the bait readily then I use the splitshot rig. Right now the water is cold and the bite is tentative. So Carolina had the edge because the fish does not feel the weight on the line that easily. And I suspect that the dropshot has the same problem as the splitshot and the fish does not commit to take the whole thing because of the weight.

Sounds like a good first yak-bass trip to me!  Why the change over from the tube?

When dropshotting, I try not to "set" the hook.  The fish usually sets it themselves when they turn and swim away (if you are using the right hooks).  Owner mesquito hooks work well for me.

Thanks for the report and pictures...it has been a while since I fished Anderson.

Totally agree Bryan I was having the same problem as Compa till I started to just raise the rod and reel a lot of times even if they are short biting they will blast the worm as it swims away. If I am still getting alot of misses I wacky hook the worm and that helps. mosquito hooks rock.

I am trying to get in shape so I can hang with you guys out in the delta sometime this spring.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

When I set the hook it is always a slow lifting of the rod until it is fully loaded up even with my carolina rigs. I usee a #2 EWG worm hooks.
