Hi - I'm the guy who does the web site for Capitola Boat & Bait.

I just wanted to let you know that I've been working with our new weather station equipment and have put together some stuff that might be of interest to kayakers in particular.

It still has rough edges and I just did a final database reset so there's not much data yet, but...  Here are a ton of graphs depicting various aspects of weather local to the Capitola wharf:   http://capitolaboatandbait.com/forecast/right-now

The data depicted is fed to the graphing logic once per minute, and graphs are updated on each quarter hour.   After time some trends should emerge, but at the very least it's an accurate picture of current conditions in the immediate area of the wharf (the equipment is mounted on the bait shop).

I believe there are some issues (some pretty serious) with page formatting on browsers other than Firefox 3 and Opera, but maybe you'll find it useful.

Thanks Dave. This info will definitely be helpful when planning my next trip to Capitola. Especially the wind speed+direction!

Cool - I'm glad to hear that on two fronts, not the least of which is that you can actually see it :)

Right on.
And I know it would require a different station/device....but it would be sweet to get an update on water temp at the wharf too!

Yeah I was thinking about that and maybe some kind of "sunshine brightness" thing.  In both cases however I'm not currently aware of anything remotely like 'cheap".  In the case of water temperature in particular, cheap is important as the odds of whatever it is getting destroyed periodically are kinda high.  If you happen across something I'm all ears though.

[edit]

Well - I guess there is this http://www.vernier.com/go/gotemp.html - though it'd be a pretty long run for USB, and it looks like something that'd react poorly to saltwater immersion. You def. got me thinking on it though.

nice feature.  You could also call the printable version OLD PERSON VERSION as that one is easier for my old eyes to see. :smt001

Hehe - well - first I need to get a handle on "version that works properly at all".  The data feed appears now to be extremely broken.  Here's hoping I get a handle on it before summer's over- gads.

Hey Dave!!

talked to Ed yesterday who advised me to take al;ook at the weather station page.  I love the picute, but am sad that the radio show banner is not up there....my fault, I have to pick it up and get it edited.

Anyway thanks for informing my peeps here at NCKA, and thans so much for the kickA$$ website you've been running with daily reports and pictures(when applicable), it rocks!!

Oh hey Allen - thanks for that! - Though I have to say it's pretty fun keeping that site going, so words of encouragement are almost too much :)

It looks like I still have quite a way to go w/ the weather data feed.   The glitch yesterday remains unexplained as the feed just healed itself half a day later, and I found no messages suggesting what went wrong. Darn.  I'll find it eventually.
