Took my nephew Kayak fishing for the first time to the forebay for stripe rs with absolutely excellent conditions on Sat. Unfortunately no love for me.. :smt010... Soaked some secret agents at the bridge then trolled around the islands. There were alot of people on the water. After talking to A few PB the bite was on real early, I didn't get there until 7:00. After A nice shore lunch we decided to drive over to the Salinas River state beach to try our luck for some surf stripers but again, no love... :smt010.. The surf was pounding... I couldn't think of A better way to spend my Sat... Until next time..Andy

Sorry no striper for you Andy. I was also there in Salinas Saturday and on my way
home, I was looking at the beach thinking no way I can make that surf with the
kayak. BTW, that is some serious lunch you were making.

Too bad no fish. But it still looks like a killer day of fishing!

The Forebay is funny that way ... the first light bite can be fast and furious then go cold fast.  Also, I've never had much luck in the Forebay on minnows?  Anyone else?

As you can see Andy doesn't mess around when it comes to lunchin.  What looks like a big production is actually pretty self contained in the Manvan.

You two need to fish/eat/chill together, (and me).

Yes, it's a tricky situation.  Technically I think you're not supposed to be on the water until sunrise.  But the best bite is right before the sun comes up.  Like this pic shows ...

Or right after the sun sets, this time of the year it is super picky that way. Later in winter you can get them all morning long.

Later in the winter there will be no more surface action though. I have had pretty good luck fly lining a whole anchovy. After the morning bite, the fish head out into the deeper water just outside of the islands and next to the channel.
