Got up early to fish the Smith last Thursday as I had to hit up Home Depot in Crescent City for items needed at work (nice to get the gas paid for  :smt003).  I got on the water early, but just missed the first light bite when a driftboat skirted down past me and hooked two fish in 10 minutes.  The river was high and off-color which is rare for the Smith and doesn't last long.  I had some good opportunities with large fish showing here and there, but, as has been shown so many times, salmon are not easy to catch.  I saw some friends on the river (I think AOTY changed a bit...    :smt002), and wished them luck as I had to bail at 11AM.  Got my work done and headed back down the coast making videos and enjoying the radio tunes that accompanied the world-class destinations and scenery along 101.  I got a couple of hours in at the office and then jetted home to dump the salmon gear and load the crab rings.  Took my son down to Crab Park at the mouth of the Eel and we ran the rings until dark.  We only got small ones and one almost legal, but we had a blast.

Catching is a rush, but, for me to be right, being there with friends and family always has to outweigh the outcome of the hunt.

First rate all the way.  Is your office a film studio???  You have an eye for beauty (and an ear for great music to match your vision.)

Have a fun and safe week.

Sweet video as usual.  Thank for sharing.  That Smith River AM bath was...WOW.  I love that river but have never bathed in her.

Oh...I love the AOTY teaser.  Can't wait for his/her/their post.

Wow,  Thanks Eric,

My kids are 24 and 30 now, neither of them have been in or on the water in a few years (maybe when they get older  :smt002 and step back from the rat race) ,

Your shots bring peace and good memories of days in the water with both of them at Van Damme.

Dale L

PS love your choice of music

I awoke to a familiar knock on the door (shades of Klamath) to find an anxious Abking who was off moments later to carry on a family tradition down at the river bank. We met up a bit later to spend another amazing morning on the water. Eric, you are blessed to have waters like the Klamath, Smith, and Shelter Cove in your backyard. You really know how to get the most out of a day even with a little work thrown in. Great video, you really captured the speed of the river. Some day I will attempt a video ............some day.
