Ok, so with Shannon and I getting our new yaks the first of the year we had to figure out a way to mount them on top of my Jeep.  My Jeep has a soft top so we purchased the rack below.  It has 1.5" diameter tubes.  I won't be using the trays for the kayaks BTW.
What should we get to be able to mount two kayaks (X-13's) to the top?  I can't afford the hullivator style as we are pretty much spending all we have on the yaks, safety equipment and rigging them.

All thoughts would be great.

You should be fine, I've seen jeeps carrying 2 yaks on those racks on the freeway.
I used a Mirage rack for a couple years and it is essentially the same thing, just for a pickup bed.
I would just say that if you are at all concerned, be sure to put bow & stern tie downs on the boats before you drive off.

If you're planning on loading them upside down, I would think the only thing you would need to do is strap the kayaks to your crossbeams. Having a bow and stern lines attached should keep them from shifting side to side. If right side up, you would need to instal some type of saddles. As for myself, I use the Hullavator...I'm a 250 pound weakling. :)

I was thinking of storing them upright and possible using the Yakima Mako Saddles.  I guess i need to check the width of my roof once the rack is installed this weekend and make sure they will sit side by side.

I'm not sure two kayaks will fit upside down side by side on your Jeep. I know that a P-15 and a T-140 won't fit side by side on top of a Toyota Tacoma, I've tried. So to carry both of our boats at the same time we bought two sets of Yakima Hullraisers at REI. I love them. They hold the boats solid, come with two tie down straps and two bow/stern straps each, and because your boat is on its side it is less likely to get deformed/dented on hot days.

Hey Fishing Jay, does that mount work on 1.5" round bars or do you need to buy adapters?

It works great on my 1.5" round bars  :smt003 It also works on square bars, but those who want to install them on the flat luggage rack bars that come on some SUVs would need adapters.

Yeah, I'd recommend a J-rack for one yak and strap the other yak upside-down....if you don't want to buy 2 sets of J-racks. That's how I roll (with the Thule brand). Also, just an FYI that my friend's Yakima Hullraiser rack broke the second time he used it. Screws bent, then broke, and the thing spun sideways while in transit (but I think he didn't have the bow and stern tied down). This was with a light Scrambler.

How long are your cross bars on your rack PK? Mine are 4 ft and I was wondering if this would work for 2 yaks on my rack...

Thanks,
