I've had a sit-on top kayak sitting in my backyard for the last year and a half and I'm finally gonna get off my butt and use it.  I'm planning to fish Lake Amador at the end of November.  What do I wear?  A wetsuit?  Waders with a belt?  I haven't done this before and would appreciate some advice.  Thanks.

There are oodles and oodles of threads on the board with the exact info you are requesting, much of it recently discussed.  This should be a good start but don't be afraid to use the search function.

It depends on how cold it gets.
I use waders with the neoprene feet and a tightly cinched belt, paddle jacket and PFD.
No shoes, maybe loose fitting sandals, and two pairs loose fitting socks, layers of warm, self wicking garments underneath.

Thanks for the info.  There are so many differing opinions I thought I'd ask for some advice for the specific location I plan on fishing.

Yeah, go with Tote's suggestions. Waders will be fine as long as you have the belt on, a paddle jacket on top, and a pfd over that. Definitely wear something warm underneath too. I've tried both neoprene and breathable waders--and I prefer the breathables because they're more comfortable and have better range of motion. In addition, I like the stocking-foot style instead of the boot-foot style...when it comes to kayak fishing.
Good Luck!!!

Hopefully I will have a new pic like that EVERY year.
It is just around the corner..You down??????

It's actually pretty fun when the weather is like that; especially when the storm passes. You have the entire place to yourself.
I did learn a few things from the first year that made it much more comfortable the next time around.
This was from the year before

I've actually had my kayak in the snow, after two tries I finally made it up the snowed-over road to the lake...  only to find the entire lake frozen over.

If you get water in the footwells and it freezes solid, could it crack the plastic--specifically at the scuppers?

my "guess" is YES......it would have to be sitting half-way in the water...or the scupper plugs in.....but then the expansion wouldn't be "directly" in the scupper
...after a second thought...the expanding ice would/SHOULD, expand upwards, resulting in a safe scupper hole.....jamairey! would have a Real_Answer I'm sure. :smt003

The water in the scuppers is not stagnant. There is enough water moving in and out that it won't freeze in the scuppers.
I have had water freeze in the non-draining footwells of my P15. It was no big deal.
I also have had a thin layer of ice form all around the top of the kayak from wind spray.
Now THAT was a big deal. Zero friction means one slippery piece of plactic. Legs over the side to scoot forward could easily mean ass over the side if you arent careful.
Trying to load an iced kayak by yourself is a beotch too. By the time you are ready to load the bottom is usually frozen too.
