As much I like Bass Pro Shops....I may visit the place sometime but I'll keep supporting the little tackle shops - especially the ones that support NCKA  :smt002 They'll need our help/business now more than ever.

Just my 2 cents...
im with you on that one!

Since I started to travel for business back in March, I've been to a good number of the big box sporting goods stores. This includes a couple of Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, and a few Sportsman's Warehouses. Overall, I think that Fisherman's Warehouse is very hard to beat when it comes to selection, and in some cases, price. With the 10% NCKA discount at Mel Cotton's, while selection is limited, they are extremely competitive on price.

It's not like walking into heaven, when you walk into one of the big guy's stores. They're just another retailer...

-Brian

I plan on getting there around 3 I think, so I'll be leaving here at 1 or so?

That should be good timing, Allen. Presuming you're taking
I-680, you'll be getting through to I-580 before the afternoon traffic slow-down.

The drive through Hayward on I-880 to I-238 to I-580 is still a killer too, no matter the time of day.

It was a zoo.  Probably 10K people there.  Seemed like that many speaches and celebrity intros also.  They opened almost 30 minutes late.  Due to fire code regs, they let in the first 3000, counted how many left, and then let that many people in.  Some people left rather than fight the crowd.  Those at the end of the line got in about 7:30.

Prices are exactly the same as the catalog.  I didn't see any great deals.  I didn't see the aquarium or other attractions, just lots of people.  Tomorrow and Friday should be much better for shopping and seeing the store.  I will probably wait till next week, just to be sure and avoid the crowd.

There is also a Dick's sporting goods going into the same shopping center in the near future.  Hopefully Manteca's housing and economic problems will get a big boost.

While I like BASS Pro and Cabelas for some things I cannot get locally (like the 7-in-One propane smoker Molbasser told me about at BassPro Shops--fantastic buy and I use it a lot), I am with Mooch and the others in that I support the local folks when possible.
