My cousin Monster Guppy, and myself took the kids to the high sierras for some hunting and fishing this weekend. The weather did not cooperate on Fri or Sat but was OK on Sun.The fishing was great with alot of little fish caught and realeased on salmon eggs.Cochino caught his first ever brookie. What an awsome experience for the both of us!The wilderness is an awsome playground for whoever will seek.Monster Guppy and myself were able to yak Hume Lake for A couple of hours on Sun with little luck. The lake is still very cool to be on. Notice the shape of the dam. I have no idea why it was constructed like that.I think were going to plan another trip like that in the near future..

Florence lake up past Huntington lake has a dam built exactly like that one.  I can't say for sure why, but I heard from a camp host at Florence lake (Jackass meadows campsite) it structure has something to do with the lake freezing over solid in the winter.

Nice Report & Pic's! Bad news with the weather but the bright side was you could of steam fished from the tent.

The reasoning behind a multiple arch dam design is that it allows engineers to build an inexpensive reinforced structure in turn minimizing the amount of material required and ultimately a reduction in construction costs.

sight fishing for trout with salmon eggs, brings back memories.  Thanks

thats what the engineers say.  They probably just had a contest to come up with a strange design and had to justify it :smt003

I am in favor of government engineers optimizing value on their projects--especially with our tax dollars--good for them. I wish Wall Street and Bush & Co were going to be held to that standard with our $700 billion--but that's another issue not for this forum.

The Sierra are beautiful this time of year--the crowds gone, the tree colors out, and the fish are stocking up for the Winter. I took the my girls (10 & 11) up to the East Carson a couple of weeks ago--they both limited out all three days, I caught 12 plus every day on high-sticked nymphs and swinging soft hackles (released all--I don't like cleaning small fish) and my Springers were flushing the Valley Quail (not in season yet--just letting them strut their stuff). The Beretta o/u 20 is coming out soon enough. Here birdie birdie!

Congrats on the fish and for passing it on.
I used to work at Hume in the late seventies.  That lake used to be a sleeper for some huge brown trout, until they drained it.  Upper ten mile was always good for some pan sized.

That last pic says it all :smt007 Good stuff right there  :smt023 Thanks for the report! It's nice and refreshing to read and see some quality fresh water kayak fishing (and camping) reports for a change :smt002 Now that I got my own "Man-Van", I plan on making more trips like this in the near future :smt045

Hey Mooch--what? You got rid of the pickup? Finally moving up eh? The more things change the more they...well you know the rest.

Guppy, nice pics. Congrats on that monster trout ;-) Just kidding. Those particular trout are purty no matter their size. And my hat off to you for taking kids. Nothing beats taking the next generation fishing, hunting, and hiking. Our enjoyment of nature is not genetically handed down--it is learned and we hold the future in our hands. Good goin'.
