A short preamble to the report: as a new student to UCSC, back in the day, I attended an orientation and campus tour which at the end of the day included a pledge sworn in blood on the stump of a redwood. The pledge in part stated that when ever any friend, relative, or interested party asked for a report on Santa Cruz we would respond that "we had not seen the sun in weeks, blanketed in fog, and the temp. never rose above 45 and you probably would not like it here at this time of year."  So in spirit of that pledge I post the following report from Limekiln. Of course there are no pictures for obvious reasons.

Had reservations to camp for Friday and Saturday night but decided to stay and fish the KC derby on Sat. to try and see if I could produce something of a fish using Fuzzy Tom's trowling method that he has been attempting to teach me (and I did get a fish). Tom has been so generous with his fishing knowledge (and fish) I just can't tell you how excited and pleased I was when he won the derby. Anyway, after the tourney me, Slowmo, Tall Paul, and Fishloomis (Chris) headed down to Limekiln to camp for the night. Got there early enough to fish but the shore break was womping in heavy chunks onto the beach and after already having fish all morning decided to just kick back and hang on the beach. We almost had Tall Paul talked into going out and teaching us advanced kayaking beach barrel rolling, but reason ruled, and we had to settle for sunset with a bit of the green flash.
Oh, the fishing report? Well, as usual it was rather poor, the swell was huge, the weather was freezing cold, and the shore break was life threatening. What more can be said, no one should waste there time to drive soooo far on such a twisted road for what's down there. :bs: :bs:

Having said that we have camping reservation for the up coming weekend.... just hate the fall on the Big Sur coast. :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:

One of the best things about this weekend was meeting and sharing the time with Chris Loomis (fishloomis). I had posted that we had an extra seat for the trip and Chris was the first reply and so he got it. Now, posting and taking the first in was a gamble, but it really worked out well and so glad we did it. Chris is a student and at this time does not have a car to travel with his kayak (except to the harbor which he lives near), sooo if you live in SC and are heading out to fish with a seat empty keep Chris in mind, you will be glad you did. (Chris, hope you don't mind I posted this.)

So you did fish or you didn't?

Btw, Kayote told me that he and the Utah boys crossed paths with a big GWS @ LK this year.

Well, it sounds like you had fun, but I wouldn't bet that you either did or did not go fishing or did or did not catch fish.  But a good story anyway, kind of reminds me of asking someone what time it is and they tell you how the watch was built.
This weekend you could stop by the Plaskett group campgrounds where a hundred or so ukesters from Santa Cruz are holding the Burning Uke Festival.  As they say, the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz is the UCSC where you get a real education!

Ya Don, soon! Sitting on the beach at LK Tall Paul and I were talking about the Islander trip and I think we both have started to get the Islander fever. My dreams are populated with fish that have tails colored yellow.

Actually I have not had a chance to download the camera and already repacking to go back down on Friday am. Very busy short week for me, but I promise to post a "straight" report with pics after this weekend's trip.

I long ago accepted that they are likely to show up anywhere, doesn't really matter where we fish they are probably around whether we see them or not. Some places are just a little more likely than others.

I drove by there on Saturday. It was the only place to launch. I gave a call out on ch. 69 to see if I would have company at 7am. No response!. I would have loved to have some company instead I drove home and worked in the garden. If any one is down in south Big Sur raidios should be on a first light to hookup!.

We were all fishing in SC at the derby on Sat. morning, didn't get to LK until around 5pm.
I will be down there again Friday afternoon, and both Sat. and Sun morning with the whole family. If you come down again we will be there and would certainly welcome the company.
