Okay, now I've seen Everything! A 300-dollar gopher rockfish??!!!

That is a really cool catch. And participating in the study w/b beneficial too. But I'm not sure why this part isn't already common knowledge:
Preliminary results from tag returns suggest a high degree of residentiality (staying close to a ‘home’ territory) for gopher rockfish, china rockfish, black-and-yellow rockfish, kelp greenling and cabezon. Long-distance
movement has been documented for black rockfish, yellowtail rockfish, canary rockfish (northward), vermilion rockfish (southward) and lingcod (north and south, as well as nearshore-offshore).

Indeed a $300 gopher is top of the market.  It reminds me of when James won like $500 bucks at the first NCKA MBF for a 3 pound black.  I never would have kept a gopher, but the fishing was SLOW and Joe didn't have squat to bring home, and at his house fresh fish = WAF and I was trying to help a brother out so I klonked two gophers late in the day.  I also gave him a ling, a verm, a blue, to add to his stringer...I still have lots of fish from flat bastard.  I guess sometimes lousy fishing pays off!

Sorry to disappoint but the tag reads 0309 Reward $$$$.  So its not $300, its the actual tag number.  I sincerely doubt that there is any money left in a CDFG account from 10 years ago for a gopher rockfish, but very cool nonetheless.

If they say they don't have any money left, just ask for a lifetime fishing license as a consolation. You never know.

I'm sure Sean would have seen that tag if it weren't for those over forty eyes.
