Hi, just wondering how much difference in speed between the trident 13 and 15.  I was sold on the trident 15 but like the new footwells in the trident 13.  I am also wondering if the 13 will be a better fit on top of my car (Camry) etc.  i just dont want to get the shorter boat and think I made a mistake down the road.

I am looking forward to fishing and posting after I get a ride.

Thanks for any feedback.

Thanks Paul

Te 13 is a nice boat and I don't think speed would be an issue unless you hav some very long paddles in your future.

Aaaah... Should I get the 13 or the 15 footer?  That's a popular question.  You should demo both, but unless you have a compelling reason to get the shorter boat, I'd always go longer.  I know a lot of guys who've started off with a shorter boat and eventually trade up for paddling performance.

I took a close look at the Trident 13 and 11 today. The shape of the hull is more rounded-out than the regular Prowlers. There was literally no definition and looked like the bottom of my old Drifter....which tracked like a broken shopping-cart wheel. Granted, I haven't paddled one but it looked like a rudder would be necessary. I thought the current Trident 15 had a hull shape similar to the regular Prowler line? Maybe I was wrong.
And maybe the reason I am being so critical is because I am considering buying one too LOL. But I was thinking of the 11 because I want a nice lightweight boat for commando launches....where paddle distance is not a factor.
Looking forward to paddling them both.

I hear you ChuckE!  At 13-6 its a good compromise size, but in the end most guys go long after a few years.

It paddles quite nicely and is nothing like a drifter or a shopping cart.  :smt003

I have a full size Dodge truck and I used to slide my X-Factor into the short bed with the tailgate down with a couple of straps holding it in. Now I have the Trident 15 ans it won't fit in the bed, so I have to put the rack on bed to transport it anywhere.

So, I suggest getting both the 15 and the 13. I do agree with you about the footwell on the 13.

Good luck on your choice.

Why are you guys so keen on adjustable footpegs? No really, I don't get the attraction. Sure, you can adjust them to your liking. They also take up less space in the footwells. But they don't do a thing for your heels - its the balls of your foot and that's it. Molded footwells improve the connection with the boat, and what's more, they don't break. I mourn their gradual disappearance.  :smt009

As long as I'm here I might as well make another observation. 13 ft fishing kayaks don't need rudders; paddlers who have trouble sticking to a straight line, that's another story.  :smt001

The 13 and 15 are both solid boats. Good luck in your quest pmjd.

I once paddled a shopping cart and I must say it was very fast, vertically.

I did spend more time on the T13 this past week and really it is a nice paddling boat. I still prefer the 15 as I always feel better in the longer boats in rough conditions. I, like PAL, prefer the molded in foot wells.

Having had all of the above I simply find them to be the most comfortable.  I am not in love with the tiny pegs, and would really like a better platform to push against.  The foot braces in the Hobie Quest are very nice, and something bigger like that would be the best of all worlds.

Pretty new to this forum and fishing from a kayak..very informative and happy I found it. After test paddling 3 SOT's, I went with the Prowler 13. I was set on the Prowler 15, but it felt "tippy" and not any faster then the 13'. I had their Scrambler XT, but grew tired of it being too snug in the seat and I'm a average size guy (6-2/215) with 36-37 waist. Darn good kayak, but my Prowler is the bomb. I look forward to learning all about this sport from all you experienced guys. Thanks again.
